Did the Bears miss Hurd red flags?

08:05 AM ET 12.16 | A Bears season that had been slipping away, bit by bit, took on more water Thursday with Sam Hurd headlines. Whatever due diligence the Bears did, it didn't do enough to reveal Homeland Security officials were interviewing Hurd 24 hours before the team announced his signing. If the Bears were at the mercy of a federal probe that demanded secrecy, either President Ted Phillips or general manager Jerry Angelo or team security chief Tom Dillon should have made that clear. They still can. ... So many valid questions about Hurd's arrest deserve answers the Bears must address immediately, game week or not. This was a guy brought into the organization hailed for his intangibles.

If he's that good at distributing things, maybe they should have moved him to QB

It appears that Hurd is a Turd. I think it will be a long time before he breathes free air again.
How can anyone making that kind of money be so greedy and stupid?

Poor Hurd just wanted to lay the groundwork for a career after football. It's just ironic that he brought on "after football" much earlier than expected by doing so.

Why does anything shock anyone about the behavior of professional athletes anymore? So he had two high paying professions. I'm pretty certain that secrecy is a must have skill set for drug dealers.

This isn't the Bears' Fault. They're a football team, not Homeland Security.

For Jerry Angelo, that usually means "willing to work for cheap".

Last weekend I saw a story on NFL.com that Jerry Angelo was thinking of stepping down at the end of the season. Can't help but wondering if he might have known something ahead of time.
