Luongo: These Canucks better than Cup team

08:23 AM ET 12.16 | Losing the Stanley Cup provided Vancouver with the excuse for a greater hangover than the Bruins' fog for winning. And the end result of the greatest season in franchise history was not the first championship in franchise history. It was a Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins on home ice, an extension of four decades of frustration, a riot that stained the city. There were questions about the goaltending and the team's toughness. ... "We were one win away, so I don't think you need to change much," said goaltender Roberto Luongo. "That being said, though, we went through a lot last year, and I think we grew as a team. So for that reason alone, I think that we're better than last year."

Roberto, you are still on the team, so it can't be better.

And if they didn't have to put you in net so damn often, they'd probably be the best in the league. The twin sisters have an older sister who's even more of a ****.

Roberto just doesn't learn from his past mistakes. No amount of tire pumping is going to make this quote go away.

I love the obligatory daily Canucks threads. Finally a subject that Leafs and Bruins fans can unite with. Luongo should shut his trap. He has done more to hurt the team than help it.

I love how the article references team toughness and there's a picture of Sedin looming in the background. Awesome!!

It's a good day for Hank today and this just made it better. :-)

December 16, 2011  09:26 AM ET

I don't think this is a joke. I think he is acknowledging they are a better team with Schneider in net.

Sit back and enjoy the goodness this day will bring.

Canuck, DJ doesn't seem to like you too much.

Yup...taking up the rear.

Oh, don't worry, I'm in the same boat. It'll be cruise ship sized pretty soon.

Addition by subtraction. Schneider is much better than Bobby Lu. Does Thomas have to pump Schneider's tires now?

Shut up and play.

I'd settle for the shut up part.

No, not really. Boland is doing a fine job of pumping the Sisters and don't see the Canucks getting past the Hawks this year and into the final.

I don't understand the headline.
"Luongo: These Canucks better than Cup team"

They didn't win the Cup. Are they saying that this seasons Canucks are better than the 1915 Vancouver Millionaires of the PCHA? Are they saying that they are better than Boston's team was last season? I'm confused. Not only is the subject misleading, but the reader has to infer what exactly they are better at, because it doesn't say.

This reader will infer that they are better at diving than the 1915 Vancouver Millionaires were.

December 16, 2011  10:40 AM ET

When the playoffs start I'm hoping the league starts enforcing the diving penalties. If they do the Nucks won't get past the first round.

See the new team. Same as the old team. (apology to The Who)

December 16, 2011  10:52 AM ET

They won the WHINERS cup

December 16, 2011  10:55 AM ET

Is there a cup for professional diving?
