08:24 AM ET 12.16 | Finally, a bit of good news sharing a headline with "concussion." Rangers defenseman Marc Staal still doesn't know when he's going to play for the first time this season, but his progress in recovering from a concussion continued during Thursday's morning skate. "The past few days have been the hardest I've skated in a really long time," Staal said following the morning skate at the Scottrade Center before the Rangers [opened] a three-game road trip against the Blues on Thursday. "The last week has gone really well. I've been ramping it up a little more." Staal has missed the entire start of the season after suffering a summertime setback related to a February injury, and knows he shouldn't look forward too much.

Good for him, hopefully he saw what happened with Crosby and before that, Bergeron as far as coming back too soon and how quickly you can end up back on the sidelines.

Good health to you Staal.

Who said Sid came back too soon? He was feeling 100%. It just may be that he may have problems/set backs the rest of his life. Pronger will. Staal may too if he comes back. You just never know.

I hope Staal doesn't.

I will say on a "NYR-related" note that after watching 24/7 last night, I find this team quite likable, other than when we play them. Hate them then. ;) I actually kind of like how Torts shoots from the hip with his players, and I liked the stuff they showed with Callahan and his family.

Please no more Sid talk, mkay? Thanks :)

If Staal comes back to 100% I put the Rags as a team that could easily win a few playoffs series. Always hated the Rags but a guy like Callahan is someone I'd want on my team anyday of the week.

Mkay, just when you start paying my bills. ;) That being said, I didn't bring him up. Address the poster who did.

We do agree about Callahan.

We are not surprised that you would enjoy looking into the players' dressing rooms DWI...not surprised at all.

Yep, you know me. If there was a chance I could get a glance at King Henry's....

Growl!

Sigh.

And who are you? ;)

Keep calm DWI. Remember this is a thread about Marc Staal not knowing when he is coming back. We don't need to turn it into a Sid thread.

I agree with you about Torts. I kind of like the guy as a person, seems like someone who doesn't hold anything back. You always know where you stand with him.

;) Yep, broke my own rule, Burgh. Damn!

Quit talking about him..you mentioned the "S" word.

So, in a more general sense, I guess, how does one know when it is too early to come back? What is the magic number? Should Staal wait til it is exactly 12 months post hit? Til he says he is 100%. Wait until it has been at least 12 months, he is 100%, and there isn't a full moon? What?

See how ridiculous?

Sidney Crosby

December 16, 2011  11:36 AM ET

Let Staal take his time coming back.

Regardless of who you cheer for, you want to see the best playing the game. Concussions are out of control. Don't know what can be done, unless you go no contact, but it has become an epidemic.
