09:03 AM ET 12.17 | The Knicks continue to take advantage of the new amnesty provision. They are pursuing sore-backed veteran point guard Baron Davis, who cleared waivers last night, and the club also is focused on pursuing forward Travis Outlaw, the Nets' amnesty cut, if he clears tonight at 8, The Post has learned.

Looks like there are plenty of loopholes in the new CBA.

Not sure how Davis is a factor, given his back injury. My guess is he'll be sidelined most of the season with injury/rehab and then getting back to game shape. Outlaw on the other hand might be one of the most sought after ac'd players yet.

The Knicks missed out on signing Jamal Crawford, who apparently didn't want to be back in NY because he signed for Portland for the same exact contract terms.

What happened? I thought everyone wanted to play here?

The Knicks need to be patient and not go out looking for a bunch of retreaded bums like Outlaw and Davis. Unless it's New York desire to sign a fat point guard whose athleticism has already deserted him and ain't coming back, they need to stay away from this loser.

I suspect Davis back injury was overblown to help him get out of Cleveland. He could end up playing well for somebody if he is interested.

Given his huge salary ($14mil), I doubt the Cavs would have kept him, injured or not. I think the injury is real enough, and it's a reason a lot of teams will pass on him. We'll see what the salary offer is for him, which will be a good indication. But with his weight problems and age (33 this spring) I don't see a lot of value in having him.

QUOTE(#15):

The salary offer is irrelevant. He's gonna make 14 million no matter what portion of that the Knicks pay him.

Yes, he'll make the $14 million no matter what. My point is that for a team to pick him up, they'll need to sign up for a portion of that. If it's only $1mil, then it shows a lack of interest and confidence in what he has left. If a bunch of teams bid and he goes for $7mil, then I'd be wrong in thinking the back injury is a factor.

When you are over the cap and can only offer minimum contracts, retreaded bums are one of your targets

QUOTE(#14):

Bulging discs are nothing to laugh at. He played very little last year for the Cavs and it's unlikely he got younger over the past year. The Knicks are trying to accumulate an all bad back team. In a condensed schedule, bad backs won't be valuable. The Knicks are still irrelevant.

Agree that this type of injury is significant and Davis looks to be on the way out. But the Knicks with Amare, Chandler and Anthony are going to have an impact this year. They may not be favored to win the title, but they do have a shot.
