Will Penn State lose more recruits?

09:00 AM ET 12.18 | Prized high school football star Tommy Schutt is the latest recruit to part ways with Penn State football but likely not the last. Schutt is one of three recruits to decommit in the wake of the Sandusky scandal. Colorado offensive lineman Joey O'Connor and tight end J.P. Holtz of Shaler Area High School have also backed away from Penn State. Other recruits are also waffling on their commitment. In the recruiting world, these types of recruits are known as "soft" verbals. At the moment, The Patriot-News estimates Penn State's 2012 recruiting class has eight "solid" verbals, high school players who are standing by their commitments. That number is incredibly low, given how quickly signing day (Feb. 1) is approaching.

I'm not surprised by this article. Additionally, Urban Meyer's arrival at OSU renews the competition for recruits. My prediction is the next guy to coach at PSU has a dismal three or four years, gets fired, and then the next coach gets them back on the winning track.

Me thinks they better hit a home run with the HC hire to stop the onslaught...and hitting a home run will be tough with this baggage. This is one of the most pathetic events I can ever remember in athletics at any level. S

Things aren't looking too good in Unhappy Valley. Not only are the despicable legal issues hanging over the school but Bradley will also be gone at the end of the year.

This article was a good read, especially the part about how the recruiting landscape is changing in the Big Ten.

It's going to take more than a decade to repair this damage.

It may take more than that. This scandal is one of the worst scandals ever, not just in sports. The despicable nature of the allegations (not yet proven) are going to make PSU a pariah for maybe a generation. It could be they may never recover from this, at least as far as football as concerned. Given what went on at PSU, regardless of what you think about the athletic department's part in the whole thing, I'm not sure it even matters. To be honest, I think PSU will need to deal with that and until the situation is history, the football program is irrelevent.
