11:15 AM ET 12.18 | Sidney Crosby's yearlong bout with a concussion will not influence next summer's contract talks, Penguins general manager Ray Shero told the Tribune-Review, and the team remains committed to a long-term extension with the star center. "The only thing on my mind is signing Sidney Crosby," Shero said. "We want him to be a Penguin for life. That's the goal. Nothing has changed."

The Pens would be smart if they signed him to a 1 year contract with 5 club options. ( yes i know club or player options dont exist yet )

Looks like it may be time to start thinking about plan B in Pittsburgh.

If he does sign a big contract there better be some provisions that protect the Pens if he goes down for long periods. It might actually be time to start thinking about Malkin as the future of the franchise.

I guess a year long bout might not change their thinking...but a 2 yrs bout come next summer...We'll see. Even the Bruins gave up on Bobby eventually...(which was just simply wrong on so many levels...) but still.

You have to remember this is the same fan base that stopped supporting the Pens all together until they started winning. Shouldn't surprise anyone.

I agree. The NHL, and fans want this kid in the game so bad! However.....If he isn't able to come back it will be a HUGE loss for the game.
I'm actually wanting the red-line back, and get rid of the trapazoid!!!! Brodeur would look like a genuis for his age without that crap in there.
Let's stop thinking that faster is only going to be better, as losing players (87 MILLION$$$ worth) just kills the game, and dilutes it further....
