Brees making late MVP push

08:05 AM ET 12.19 | After a day in which Dan Marino all but kissed his record goodbye and the Packers lost, it's natural to wonder about the MVP race. A month ago it seemed a foregone conclusion that Aaron Rodgers would win the NFL's Most Valuable Player award. But Drew Brees might just be passing his way back into the race. Make no mistake, Rodgers remains the overwhelming favorite to win the league's most prestigious individual award, and at this point, it would take an epic meltdown for the Packers' quarterback to lose it. But as we enter the season's final fortnight, Brees is making a furious late push for consideration. His numbers are simply too overwhelming to be ignored.

It's going to come down to Rodgers and Brees, and given that Brees will have the better number, he'll probably get it.
He breaks Marino's record, it's a lock, even if Brady beats Marino as well. Brady won't be able to catch Brees's numbers.

Too late. MVP is based only on the regular season. It's bogus, but that's how it's done.

It's a nice thought Schad, but I think the media has had their league MVP votes locked and loaded for Rodgers for awhile. Maybe, Brees can get the Offensive MVP award, if for no their reason than breaking Marino's record. It would be nice to see him get something for his efforts of the season (besides the nice contract that is undoubtedly coming his way).
