Bills losing confidence in Fitzpatrick?

08:02 AM ET 12.19 | As far as Chan Gailey is concerned, Ryan Fitzpatrick remains the unquestioned No. 1 quarterback in Buffalo. "Zero," Gailey said after the Bills lost at home to Miami, 30-23. "I've lost zero confidence." That puts him in a distinct minority. Actually, zero might be the number of people who haven't lost confidence in Fitz. A coach will swear allegiance to his quarterback until he has no choice. Until then, Gailey stands by his guy, despite mounting evidence to the contrary. Raise your hand if you still have confidence in Fitz. His teammates must be losing faith. I imagine Fitz has even lost some confidence in himself.

The infamous vote of confidence. I hope Fitzpatrick is still renting and hasn't bought a house in Buffalo yet.

That is the bills problem. They have 20 solid players that used to be on their team playing for other teams in the NFL because they lost confidence in them too.
That said, it is not like any QB is going to make much of a difference with so many other problems there.

honest analysis of fitz: hes an uber smart guy and a slightly above average physical quarterback. he learns the system quick and completely.
but...
he simply doesnt have the arm strength to make all the necessary throws, every time, every week, expecially against the top-tier defenses.
this weakness in his game just doesnt allow the bills offense to stretch quality defenses across the field enough to sustain a season-long quality offense.
add to this the fact that the bills again just dont have enough offensive talent across the board to compensate for ryans lack of superior arm strength.
the early season success of fitz and the bills was a result of luck, (never put down luck, [no andrew pun intended] but lady luck can never sustain a team thru an entire season), healthy players, and the fact that nobody took the bills seriously (for a reason) at the beginning of the season and didnt have enough tape to accurately and successfully scout fitzs weaknesses.
once they started winning, the other teams took serious note, scouted fitzs weaknesses properly and shut him down. add in an inferior team, subtract some injuries and the luck goes the other way, and shazam! case closed.
he does have some true talent though, but without a complete competitive quality team arouned him, he and the bills will continue to struggle.
add a emmit smith or terrel davis type for him to hand the ball to on a consistent basis, he, like most nfl qbs, would have a lot more success. (this is an obvious statement, but still needs to be said out loud).
should he have gotten that big of a contract? probably not. but he could very well hold down the fort for a few years IF they can surround him with better players.
personal opinion: buffalo will fail to add the needed pieces around him, as this is their MO, he will struggle and get all the blame.
he is doing the best he can but eventially he should end up as a super-back-up for a superbowl contending team that needs a mega-quality back-up.
