08:12 AM ET 12.19 | The Yankees, apparently, were not willing to dial up "ridiculous" on the Yu Darvish bidding meter. If Japanese pitching sensation Yu Darvish indeed throws his first major league pitch next season, it will not be in a Yankees uniform. The Yankees are "not getting him," a person with knowledge of the situation said today, on condition of anonymity because the posting process is still ongoing. ... [The] person with knowledge said the Yankees' bid will not be high enough to top those they believe were submitted by a pair of American League rivals, the Rangers and Blue Jays. "A ridiculous number," the person with knowledge said, while declining to offer exact figures.

Thank God the Yankees are showing the way towards fiscal sanity.

I find it ironic that people who are apparently within the Yankees organization are labeling other teams' spending as "ridiculous"

The Yankees will still bid.

I think that's confirmed at this point. Just not as much as the Jays and Rangers.

And we're hearing it quite often these days. I guess those Yankees history books they sell aren't actively read by management figures.

The fact that the yankees bid means they drove the price up. With their deepest of pockets, the Yankees win any war of attrition. They can make a team blow a $100m on bidding for and signing Yu and then that team doesn't have the money to sign other big money FA's, perhaps for several seasons.

Rumor has it that the bid is in the $60,000,000 range. Add in a contract over 5 or 6 years, and you are looking at 23-25 mil a year for a pitcher that's never thrown a pitch in North America.

Also, anyone know WTF the Ham Fighters taking so long to accept the bid? This is becoming a charade. They peed themselves when they learned how high the bid was yet it is 5 days later and we still havent heard from them.
