Polian won't guarantee Peyton's return

08:05 AM ET 12.20 | It seems clear that the Colts are asking themselves the same question so many NFL fans are: Has Peyton Manning played his final game in a Colts uniform? But you'd never get anyone in the organization to admit the possibility that Manning wouldn't return, at least not right now. Or would you? Bill Polian, speaking on his weekly radio show Monday night said he "didn't know the answer" as to whether or not Manning would be back with Indianapolis next season. "I don't know the answer to that," Polian said. ... "There are so many variables involved that it's impossible to tell at this point in time. It's our fervent hope that he is. But I couldn't unequivocally give you an answer of yea or nay."

Given he's under contract, seems it's totally the Colts decision.

I'm sure they are thinking about the 28 million dollar bonus due in 2012 has more to do with it than anything else.

Naw, Polian's too much of an idiot to think for himself. I am sure it has more to do with what Andrew Luck wants.

It's got more to do with a lazy journalist fishing for dirt than anything else. Pretty lame.

Colts would be better off if the Polians weren't guaranteed to return!!!

December 20, 2011  08:57 AM ET

Hell, Payton can't even guarantee a return in 2012.

December 20, 2011  08:58 AM ET

As a Browns fan I get jealous when I see what the Colts are going through!

once again we have a misleading headline in T&R ( and I think deliberately so), of course Polian wont guarantee it, he would be an idiot to do so. but he made it clear that they want Manning back, and that is the important part.

Stay tuned...

Yup, I don't see anyway Manning doesn't return. Why rush Luck out there? Look at the struggles of Bradford right now. If you got one of the best QBs ever under contract and with the slotting system for draft picks now Luck won't break the bank, go with Manning at least one year and groom Luck... Doesn't take a genius.

I agree! That's a lot of money to put out there for a guy who is one hit away from being finished. With the kind of money and picks he could command in a trade, that would seem to be the way to go. That would also be a high risk, for any takers!

If they do trade Manning, I'd expect the Jets to be the front runners... Cause they really are just an above average QB away from being legit threats.

Peyton to the Jets would be FREAKING SCARY!

With that defense and Manning tossing the rock to Holmes and Burress, that would net a title or 2 for a few years.

The Jets would not be able to get him because a team like Miami would give up a high draft pick for him in a heartbeat!

I think the Colts should draft Luck and trade Manning for a High Round 1 or multiple picks and rebuild that team...they have many holes to fill that Manning covered up because he is so good.

Miami getting him would depend on if he is traded before or after the draft as I fully expect Miami to draft either Barkley, Griffin or Jones. Also Miami may be a bit gun shy of picking up a guy coming off an injury (Culpepper) or trading high on a guy (Feeley), they been burned a few times on retread QBs.

Nope---You heard it here---Cowboys' fail once again to make the playoffs under Romo---Peyton wearing the Lone-Star next season....Archie & Olivia hanging with Jerry in the big skybox eating hush puppies & drinking RC colas...

December 20, 2011  09:50 AM ET

As a Falcons fan, I'll trade Matt Ryan and all my backups for Peyton Manning. All day long! If the Colts release Peyton Manning, I will like to drive to Indianapolis and take Polian's picture- right as he announces his decision. I will blow it up on my wall as the DUMBEST EXECUTIVE IN ANY BUSINESS ON THE HISTORY OF PLANET EARTH!!!

I mean, Windows 2012 is glitchy, so Microsoft should trade it away and start selling long-lasting electric car batteries. I mean, it's a sure thing that the person who creates a car battery that can drive 80 MPH for 5 hours straight and recharge in less than 10 minutes will be the richest person on Earth, right? But right now it's UNPROVEN!!!! (dummy)
