08:07 AM ET 12.20 | Chuck Hayes may yet find an NBA home -- and old home -- in Houston. The Rockets on Monday made inquiries about the prognosis of [Hayes] to determine if his medical condition might allow him to be a free-agent option again, a person with knowledge of the talks said. The Kings voided Hayes' $21.3 million, four-year contract on Monday, days after Hayes failed a team physical. The team had announced last week that an abnormality was found during a heart examination. No additional information was made available at Hayes' request. Hayes broke into the league in 2005-06, the season after his predecessor at power forward for the Rockets, Juwan Howard, was sidelined because of a heart condition.

I'm a Houstonian and forever a Rocket fan. But it's tough. Chuck is an example of why we can't get quality free agents to come here. Chuck gave everything he had for this club but couldn't get a long term deal with us. Why ask of him now? Same reason R. Lewis. a home-boy went on to Orlando rather than come home for less, after he was passed up in the draft by ours truly. Same with C. Drexler,(another home boy). should have been drafted here instead of R. McCray. Nothing against Rodney but Clyde played him into the ground in that final 4 game. Luckily he did come home beccause of Akeem. Speaking of "the Dream" he did more for Houston basketball than anyone, even Elvin Hayes, (who by the way was sent packing on arrival from S.D.), but Dream had to go to Toronto to earn the final year of his deal. This never happened to Bird, Jordan, or Magic because thier teams were loyal to them, I put Akeem in this light. Now what Superstar wants to play here. You reap what you sow!
