Abreu would welcome a way out of Anaheim

08:13 AM ET 12.20 | Signing Albert Pujols served to make the lineup that much tighter for Bobby Abreu. Now, with Kendrys Morales seemingly on the verge of a comeback, the Angels should consider trading Abreu rather than paying him $9 million to be a part-time DH. Abreu, who turns 38 on March 11, is not the type to demand a trade, but he would welcome one, according to sources with knowledge of his thinking. His concern is playing time. Morales, a switch-hitting first baseman, has missed the past 1 1/2 seasons due to leg injuries. The Angels, however, were confident enough in his recent progress to offer him arbitration, knowing his salary likely would be about $3 million.

First ???

They'd better make sure that Morales is ready to go before trying to move Abreu.

Why yes, yes you are.

Abreu will be traded before spring training. With Pujols sogning and Morales on the way back, they need him like a horse needs a kick stand.

They have Trumbo. Wouldn't suprise me to see them trade Morales as well.

Why not stay put and try to contribute a tad to maybe winning a ring versus going to a team that has no chance.

i did talk to the big shots already about morales, could the angels trade morales for kershaw? they told me that the dodgers wouldn't trade kershaw for morales, that if the dodgers were to trade kershaw it wasn't going to be for morales, but they could trade him to another team for 5 top major leaguers, go figureout!!

i think morales its in better shape than last year, come to think the type of screws that the surgeon place in morales ankle were to cheap and that's the reason why the morales fail to run in full speed the 4 courners!!

9 millions for a DH? its hard to believe but the halos would be paying 25 in 4 or 5 years for a DH!!

now, morales most likely will be a full time DH, the halos don't want to risk another injury to morales ankle, plus trumbo ended the season with a broken foot himself, so to say trade abreu would be a solution with trumbo in the shelf and morales rustiness due to a long time out of the field its going to be hard to adjust right away to the at bats by morales, his timming its going to be very missadjusted, so nobody knows in what kind of shape morales could be at this point!!

December 20, 2011  12:12 PM ET

the halos do have, bourjos on CF, lazy boy vernon wells in the LF, tori hunter in the RF, plus trumbo should have to try to work the third base, and if he its unable to play third due to the broken foot in last season?then he most play the outfield where could trumbo play in the outfield? i think its easy to find him a spot, wells should be benched i'm sorry wells nothing personal but the halos will need offense and trumbo can provide some power in the lineup,

December 20, 2011  12:16 PM ET

in a different type of escenario, could be too many outfielders? hunter, abreu, wells, trumbo, bourjos, but in many cases the team who has alot OF'S not always will be able to play them all, plus lets not forget the injuries do play a big role in any team!!

December 20, 2011  12:22 PM ET

lets say the halos trade abreu to the braves, could the braves send prado to the halos? about sending prado, and jose constanza for abreu? now what we are picturing in here its the 9 millions in abreu contract, the braves own to prado the amount of 3.5 millions for next season, constanza its a very cheap contract only 400k's that would be like 4 millions for both players, unless the halos would pay the 5 millions balance from abreu's contract!!

December 20, 2011  12:25 PM ET

the braves need one outfielder, constanza its more like a utility player, in abreu the braves could have a good OF at least for a year or so, the angels need badly a leadoff hitter plus the third base its the weakest spot in the whole team, i mean callaspo its good but the halos need some versatility in the third base!!

December 20, 2011  12:31 PM ET

where can the angels play abreu? in the outfield? no room, in the DH spot? morales would be in that spot the whole season, the last resort its to trade him, unless the halos send callaspo and trumbo to the braves but that would be higher amount in the players contract, callaspo makes 3.5 millions per season, plus abreu's 9 millions? that's why i was asking for only to send abreu!!
