Chiefs president/general manager Carl Peterson said any notion tight end Tony Gonzalez or running back Larry Johnson could be traded would be a long shot because the Chiefs signed both before the 2007 season to multiyear contracts that each included guaranteed money.

Chiefs unlikely to move stars:

Because no team is willing to spend high draft picks on a RB that has a broken body from over use or a TE with a high salary and the down slide of career's end in front of him.

Yeah the Headline should say "31 Other Teams Unlikely to Be Stupid Enough to Take Stars Off Chiefs Hands and Help Them Unload Salaries"."

I will still take Gonzo over any tight end in the league, its not his fault he has 2 pee-wee level qb's trying to throw him the ball

January 4, 2008  12:10 PM ET

Can they trade Herm??? KC was pretty good until he got there.

January 4, 2008  02:07 PM ET

Smart move by KC to not trade their two stars they are not part of the problem ..These guys are star players they should build young talent around them by starting with their offensive line..

January 4, 2008  03:30 PM ET

I wish they could trade Herm.

January 4, 2008  05:11 PM ET

I'd take Gates and Winslow over Gonzo any day.

January 4, 2008  05:57 PM ET

HA HA HA. The Chiefs are stuck paying LJ big time money. I guess it works out because they were paying him "kibbles & bits" when he was carrying the team on his back.

January 4, 2008  05:58 PM ET

They should have let LJ walk and locked up Jared Allen to a long term deal. Looks like he'll be out of KC pretty soon unless they hit him with the franchise tag.

January 4, 2008  06:24 PM ET

LJ and Shaun Alexander should play in the same backfield together. The big bucks come and the game goes bye bye.

January 4, 2008  06:46 PM ET

Its going to be a offseason of many changes in K.C. I think hey will keep both LJ and Gonzo. They would be dumb to not keep jared Allen. Just need to to get younger better o-line and maybe trade for a QB cause what we got not vary good. So I guess we can only hope tofind a way to get better

January 4, 2008  07:14 PM ET

Paying runningbacks big bucks is almost always a stupid move because it is maybe the easiest position to fill through the draft or free-agency. LJ and Shaun Alexander are perfect examples of why i feel this way. However if B.Westbrook needs some more green, i say a weapon like that is a little harder to find.

I would like to Thank You all for making me the most responded to writer of the year 2007.
Thank You

I think they will keep LJ and gonzo because they are some of the 2 best on the team, plus gonzo is great at what he dose and LJ was number 2 running back in the leage a couple time.

1st Carl Peterson is an idiot & should have been fired a long time ago. How long has he been the Chiefs GM 17 yrs or so & has 1 playoff win. He has worked hard on keeping the Chiefs around 0.500 his whole career & knows little about football since a lot of his football draft picks have failed...Junior Saiva, Ryan Sims...etc.. (1 Exception LJ who has lost the chip off his shoulder since he was paid this yr. how stupid)

2nd. Trade LJ for a 1st & 4th rd draft pick this yr. No questions asked. You don't pay a franchise RB when you don't have an OFF. Line that could even block for a college team. You don't but the the trailer in front the team of horses. LJ doesn't pick up the blitzers for the QB to pass, making it a for gone conclusion when the Chiefs are going to pass oh wait that's only on 3rd & long. LJ is a selfish-cancer & should have been traded to the Packers last yr.

3rd Franchise Jared Allen & work on getting him a long-term contract. He has heart & now that he has given up drinking & devoted himself more to his conditioning he is a force on & off the field.

4th Keep Tony G outside of Bowe the Chiefs have no other receivers (Eddie Kennison may be done or cut).

5th Get another QB via the draft, a trade, or as an UFA, or Derek Anderson.

6th Get rid of Kendrell Bell release. Decide what to do w/aging veterans Law, Surtain, & etc...

7th Sign some OL Help---Jake Scott, Ryan Lilja, Rueben Brown, Max Starks, Mike D. Williams, Alan Faneca, Torrin Tucker, Trai Essex, Justin Smiley??? etc Also the Chiefs need to decide whether to bring back Casey Wiegmann or not.

8th Sign or draft some WR's: Bryant Johnson, Devard Darling, Drew Carter, Keary Colbert, Bernard Berrian, Rashied Davis, Antonio Chatman, Doug Gabriel, Terrance Copper, David Patten, Marcus Robinson, Andre' Davis, Justin Gage, Keenan McCardell, Eric Moulds.

9th. Find a permanent kicker if it is Carney that's fine, but just not another untested rookie.

10th Another TE to help out Tony G on passing. Jason Dunn is great on blocking, but not so much on passing downs. Get an experienced FB for any of the Chiefs RB's hmm. isn't Tony Richardson a FA?? Could he come back ala Donnie Edwards??

11th Repeating Fire Carl Peterson..

lendaleusc06: too much coffee this morning, mate. As for NFL trades, when is the last significant trade you have seen? Trades don't happen anymore, not unless it involves draft picks. Veteran for veteran trades are a thing of the past.

January 6, 2008  04:11 AM ET

The greatest thing about the Chiefs was the Hard Knocks TV series. Hope they do another this preseason so we can enjoy Herm ordering HOT Krispy Kremes.

January 7, 2008  01:42 AM ET

lendaleusc06 has a flawless plan. Juice Boy B-12 Clinton Portis for Champ Bailey trade. It still happens

January 7, 2008  02:47 PM ET

Gettiing rid of Mike Solari was the first step on the road to recovery. Getting some help for the o-line will be the second. No quarterback in the league could have done well with the Chiefs o-line, so giving Croyle another year is not a stetch. He has a big arm and needs some work on his reads and this off season and some new linemen will help. A wideout to complement Bowe would be nice but money should be spent on protecting Croyle. One more seasons like this one and he will be the next David Carr, a gunshy waste of money.
