07:20 AM ET 12.21 | The Reds, continuing their search for bullpen help, are talking to the Cubs about a trade for left-hander Sean Marshall, according to major league sources. The Cubs are targeting left-hander Travis Wood, a pitcher who intrigued team president Theo Epstein last season when Epstein was GM of the Red Sox, sources say. It is not known whether other players might also be part of the deal.

Not a big Epstein fan, but I have to admit, he is cleaning the house out quickly.

Bad move for the Reds.....T.Wood has far more potential

Theo's trigger finger must be pretty itchy at this point of the offseason.

The guys he really needs to clean out will be tough to get rid of: Soriano and Zambrano. If Theo was willing to pay most of their wages, the Sox could take them off his hands as compensation for him leaving his Red Sox position.

marshall its a reliever, woods its a starter!!

could be a bad move but the two GM'S would like to give a try, who knows it may work for both teams!!

One of the most logical solutions I've read here!

Wow, get rid of the one Cubbie that actually does a great job? (And don't try to say Castro is better because between Castro's penchant for throwing balls away (29 errors!), his lack of concentration at times, and his poor base-running, Marshall is the better baseball player at this time.) Sure, the Cubbies are desperate for starters but to get rid of a highly effective left-handed reliever, it sure seems the Cubbies won't have an improved team until 2014, given the replacements for the players leaving.

Don't be an idiot Walt!!!!!!!

Ja hey der, that should make you happy, Markie, now you have more to gloat about. Don't slap it too hard.

the trade has being complete, marshall to the reds for t, wood and two more prospects, now we have to wait and see it, if wood would be able to handle the job as a starter!!

December 21, 2011  07:04 PM ET

the reds have being doing good trades in the last two weeks or so, could the reds go after gio gonzalez and trade more players for him?? now the A's would like to get good top players in return for gonzalez!!!

better do it now than later,,theo epstein goal is,,, to rebuilt the minor league system and the only way is through trades, one's the minor league its strong the franchise would be working in the major's team, after all the cubs are very weak in their minor system!!

A good trade. Set up men have lesser trade value compared to that of young starters with potential. The Cubs now have control of Travis Wood for the next five more seasons. Compare that to Marshall who becomes a free agent after next season. They need starting depth, and Wood is a good pick up
