House-cleaning on hold in San Diego ... maybe

08:10 AM ET 12.23 | Winning has a way of diffusing even the most internal tensions. Dean Spanos has been struggling for several weeks with what to do with the head coach and general manager he wants so badly to succeed even as he wonders whether they can. There was a point, in the latter stages of the team's six-game losing streak and even beyond the most recent loss, where the Chargers president was described by more than one person close to him as "distraught" and more recently by one source recalling it as simply "very disappointed." ... As the winning ways have returned, though, it appears Spanos may be struggling less. That does not mean he has flip-flopped, but it could mean he is inclined to give his current structure another go.

Delusion is a not so wonderful thing.

I've never bought into the Philip Rivers hype.

Neither have I. They should have kept Brees. . . and Shottenheimer.

Ditto this.

This team has gotten very good at running in place. Win a little, lose a little and go nowhere.

If mediocrity is the end-game, then don't touch a thing Mr. Spanos.

Yep.

OK, one more time. But this is your last chance, and I mean it. Really. Love , Dean

Rivers is a good QB. This team just doesn't ever start the season ready to play. They're lights out in December, but they've usually dug themselves into a big hole by that point. This team needs a major overhaul.

December 23, 2011  10:58 AM ET

brees was average at best in SD. as a life long SD fan, i was all for Marty getting the boot and don't know what buying into rivers or not means (look at his stats the last 5 years). there is nothing to 'buy' into - he's damn good. this team needs some urgency and some discipline. marty helped turn the bolts around and it was time for another coach to take them to the next level.

December 23, 2011  11:00 AM ET

oh and mediocrity is fine with the spanos's - long as they're making money and the team appears at least competitive, they're good.

They haven't gotten to that 'next level' under Norv.

December 23, 2011  11:34 AM ET

If Norv and AJ couldn't win with it all the talent they had when Norv took over, they can't win it all period. Those two bozos could screw up the '72 Dolphins, the '85 Bears and all of the 49'er and Steeler teams.

So, yeah, Dean, keep that team together! Don't change a thing.
