Indians called about Swisher

08:26 AM ET 12.23 | Since Nick Swisher became a more expensive piece in the Bronx, speculation has increased he may wind up elsewhere. The Cleveland Indians are one of several clubs that have called the New York Yankees about [Swisher], according to major-league sources. But at this point, Swisher does not appear to be a realistic alternative. ... For the Yankees to trade Swisher, they would need a player to replace him in right field. They lack a major-league ready outfield prospect such as the Phillies' Domonic Brown. And though they would shed Swisher's $10.25 million salary in a trade, they probably could not find as productive a player on the free-agent market. The Yankees consider Swisher one of the better right fielders in the game.

Hey now!

I don't understand why the Indians need or want him. Don't they have Choo in RF? I think Choo is younger than Swisher, definitely less expensive and arguably a better all around player...

On a different note, I have to give full credit to Atro for his call on Carlos Beltran.... he thought possibly $15 million a year and with the Cards signing him for $26 mill over 2 years, that's pretty much spot on.

Choo is better, but he's not Swishalicious!!!!

Unless you're talking about last year's injury-plagued season for Choo, I don't see how it's even arguable. Last year notwithstanding, Choo's been a much better player than Swisher.

Swisher is an underrated player, not great but solid. I can't really see Cleveland getting him, because they need someone with more power, in my opinion, but there are not a lot of great options out there.

The Indians really need an upgrade at first base. Carlos Pena maybe?

December 23, 2011  09:46 AM ET

Cleveland could actually be okay this year, if they have a little more offense from 1B and the OF. Jimenez, Masterson, Carmona, Tomlin and Lowe may be a nice rotation.

It's probably a tad hyperbolic due to the utter inefficiency of this website of late.

Swisher is a choker. Sure, great clubhouse guy, but chokes miserably in the postseason. I cannot believe Cashman has kept him around so long after his repeated playoff collapses.
