07:32 AM ET 12.24 | Whether a successful first week as interim will be enough to make Romeo Crennel the next coach will most likely depend at least in part on how the Chiefs in their final two games. Scott Pioli has vowed to conduct a thorough search, but the Chiefs are believed to want to move quickly to name a permanent coach so that he has the best chance to hire top assistants. After the strained relationship between Pioli and Todd Haley, the Chiefs will certainly want a coach who can work seamlessly with the general manager. Crennel and Pioli have a deep history; Pioli met Crennel when Crennel was on Bill Parcells's Giants staff and Pioli would attend their training camps. Pioli's wife, Dallas -- who is Parcells's daughter -- has known Crennel since she was 10. Pioli and Crennel also worked together with the Jets and the Patriots.

Whew, that was like a genealogy search. It was hard for me to picture Christmas dinner with your in laws and having to ask bill Parcells to pass you the potatoes. Still working on that picture.

At Bills house they have Mahi Mahi for holiday meals. No Dolphin is safe from the Tuna.

At least they did not use the term 'begat'.

Depending upon the weather, Parcells might prefer running the potatoes, rather than passing.

they should

they should

And if so, the very first step they should agree on is that they need a QB.

I don't know about that. I think Orton could be successful there.

Could be... But I'm not sure about his contract status.

One thing for sure... Cassel is not the answer.

this guy had a shot was didn't do a very good job so why the rush to make him permanent. the team he is on now had a coach and it lost enough to miss the playoffs and he was one of them so he needs to take the blaim as wel

Lets make sure we interview at least one white non minority candidate first just to keep things on a level plain.

I would like to see at least one non minority get interviewed to keep it fair.

They're worried about the increase in the Gatorade budget.

Free agent after this year...if they're willing to pay he'll stay (they should and he should)

First coach to beat the Packers in over a year, can't hurt to have on your resume

December 24, 2011  12:11 PM ET

I'd keep him always like Crennel.

Football version of 'Six Degrees of Separation."

Do the Chiefs really have a choice? nobody wants to come to KC

Orton is only playing out the rest of the season for the Chiefs. He is a free agent at the end of the season why the Broncos waived him. Orton has no clutch gene and if he is not leading at the end of the 1st half he does not win. He has one of the worst red zone stats for starting QBs in the NFL.
Nah, Rivers is having a bad year because the GM and Norv suck at running a team. Not giving and plenishing the right talent.
