08:01 AM ET 12.26 | Perhaps lost in the trash-talking run-up and Jets-Giants postgame is the job status of Gang Green's would-be offensive leader. As the New York Jets begin to process the reality that there most likely will be no back-door path to the playoffs followed by a couple of unlikely road wins in the postseason, one of the factors the franchise will confront is the future of quarterback Mark Sanchez. A league source tells PFT that the Jets are beginning to realize that Sanchez may not be the answer at the position. That said, the Jets will not publicly acknowledge even the possibility that Sanchez is falling out of favor. ... Working against Sanchez is a base salary for 2012 that jumps to $8.5 million.

Fat Rex is falling out of favor just as quickly

This is where the new rookie cap has it right. It's a lot easier to move on if you've swung and missed on a high pick, and it sure beats remaining further mired in mediocrity because you're financially committed to a bust.

Should have stayed at USC for a couple more years; wasn't ready when he came out, still not fully ready. Makes the same mistakes over and over between some moments of brilliance.

Sanchez came out of USC way to early and he and the Jets are paying for it. He's very talented, I don't think there's much argument there, and when he's on his game he's a dangerous weapon but he's off far too often. If he's ever going to fully succeed as the Jets quarterback, they'd better get him a tight end or two.

But what QB's stay in college any longer than they have to when there is a big payday waiting? Not many

How about the Jets see if they can find a deal for Rex and Sanchez as a package?

December 26, 2011  09:01 AM ET

Every year for at least the last 3, the JETS will win the Super Bowl and every year disappointment, maybe Sanchez cant will the big games, but he has a weak line and no running backs to control the game. Also Rex quit talking so much it was ok the 1st 2 years but your talking hasnt been backed up by your team

Gangrene has more issues than just Sanchize. They need to figure out how to put 12 men on defense. They need another DB to do the tackling that isn't getting done on Gilligan's Island.

Maybe Rex Ryan's gimmick is no longer effective up there in NY. Whatever the case, he brought the Jets back to relevance in a hell of a hurry.

Maybe they should start using tazers on the field.

Now there's an idea! It's always good to find someone who 'thinks outside the box'.

He needs to figure out what to do about The Sanchize if he wants to keep his job.

So sad when these things happen to the Jets.

And he's getting them up to laughingstock status almost as fast.

Sanchez gets a base salary of $8.5M next season? Is that before or after the "housekeeping" that was supposedly done on his contract? I know that's hardly the salary for an elite QB like Brady or Brees, but for Sanchez, even that seems a bit much.
