Time to worry about Peterson's future

08:04 AM ET 12.26 | Even in a tremendously disappointing Vikings season, Adrian Peterson served as a highlight, which makes news of his knee injury that much harder to swallow. Before even saying a word, Peterson stared into the carpet and let his lips rumble with exasperation. No one in the Vikings' locker room would say it. But the vibe was apparent, that one monstrous unanswerable question hovering in the air like stale cigar smoke: Had we seen the last of Adrian Peterson? Not in the sense that Peterson never will play again. No one in the Vikings organization has the stomach to even consider that fate at this early stage of the injury. But if and when Peterson can return to action, will this injury sap him of his trademark explosiveness?

He'll never be the same after this type of surgery.

He has $40 million guaranteed in that contract extension he signed that goes in to effect next year. $40 million is guaranteed in the deal. He could start next year on the PUP list.
You cannot trade him ,his contract stops that, under any condition. If he never plays again he will still count under the cap for at least $6 million a year over the span of that deal.
RBs and long term money are a bad mix.

I hope AP comes back healthy. Sad to see anybody get an injury like this.

Nice contract, for Peterson, not so much for the Vikings, but they should be used to it by now. They haven't made a good move since before they traded half a football team for Walker.

A bad season ends on a worse note for Vikes fans.

Too bad about AP. It's hard to believe this team was one errant pass away from the Superbowl two years ago to face the equally-fallen Colts. Just goes to show you how quickly fortunes can fall in the NFL.

They Vikes have not mad a single good trade since before Walker? HA-HA-HA, the Jared Allen trade with KC says you are wrong.

Jared Allen hasn't really had an impact in Minnesota when you consider their 3-12 record.

He should be able to play next year but the 2nd year back from these injuries are when players get back to where they were before (if everything heals correctly). He gonna want to play a full load next year but the smart move would be to split his carries next year with Toby. It's not like Toby didn't do a good job this year.
