New flaw exposed in Packers

08:02 AM ET 12.26 | The Pack's high-octane offense hit high gear Sunday night, but all is not perfect in Green Bay. [After] clinching home field through the NFC playoffs with a 14-1 record, there seemed to be some tiny cracks in the once-perfect Packer foundation. It was nothing major, but lurked just below the surface and not too far to escape the view of coach Mike McCarthy. He saw it at halftime when Green Bay led 14-3, but had given up 126 rushing yards. That wasn't just 126 rushing yards by the Bears, but 126 rushing yards by third-string back Kahlil Bell and former practice squad back Armando Allen. ... "We obviously need to do a better job of stopping the run and we'll have those opportunities and hopefully get them," linebacker Clay Matthews said.

You can certainly tell today is a holiday. If you can't post from work why even bother?

Nice.

Hey, Sporting News, don't knock Armando Allen!

Doesn't make any difference -- just score more points than their opponent ... been doing it since last year. If another team cannot shut down the Packers O, the results will be the same. Go PACK!!

It is weird that before last night they had given up as much yardage on defense as they have gained.
This may be the worst defense that wins a Superbowl.

Who wrote this Truth and Rumors and what games have they been watching all season?

This is nothing new, it has been that way all season.

The offense has made up for the defense all season.

Next thing this "reporter" will be telling us is that it is better when you catch the ball instead of dropping it. Is there such a thing as the DUH Awards?

"New" flaw....that's funny. That's been a problem all year. They get away with it because teams get too far behind to continue running (Marv Alberts voice here) "With Authority"

Green Bay, New Orleans and New England have racked up their wins on the backs of their offenses. Each of their defenses are suspect. I'm not convinced if any of these three could count on its defense to make a late 4th quarter hold to win a playoff game. The key for them is to go into the 4th quarter with at least a two score lead.

Good Morning Guys; Recycled content.

Buddy Ryan said it best:"bend but don't break".

GB ranks 14th in points allowed. Not exactly top of the heap but in the upper crust. I don't care how many yards a team gains... just hold them to FG's and you'll win more than you lose.

Much ado about nothing.

Playoffs may be a different picture but we're still in the regular season. The road to the SB will go thru Lambeau. Not so quick SF and NO...

PS... Can anyone please find me a better photo of Rodgers than the one sitting on the bench with the pink towel?

I really think he is working on it ...

Could be a chick magnet thing OR Ms ARod gave it to him OR it is one of those breast cancer deals and if that is the case ... it's entirely OK

Hey, it's not as bad as the Cutler one. Cutler's is terrible. It's time to refresh all of these pics for petes sake.

There's an asterisk here though, 50. Yards allowed kinda gets flushed because of the interceptions. They're pretty good in the red zone as well. Being as good as they are at those two things, yards allowed is a mirage. And these aren't just one-off accomplishments. Their D literally gets 2 picks a game, with decent returns for good field position, and have a few pick 6's too. It's so consistent you can count on it, which makes yards allowed meaningless. If you look at the scores of their games, many games are won by those very interceptions. How bad is that defense now?

Who knows? The team to beat? Yes. Be Careful of stats. The number one reason the Packers get those interceptions is because the other team is behind and forcing things. Passing when they have little choice.
The Packers had NO interceptions vs the cheifs. Why? Because it was close and they had to honor the run too.
Packers have a bad defense. period. But their offense is so good it does not matter usually, and it keeps the defense off the field a lot, which is a good thing for the Packers.

Maybe a better indication of a teams defense is what it does when the game is put on its shoulders when the clock is running down.
The packers defense let the Giants go the length of the field in no time and tie up the game on them. Great offense bailed them out the last 56 seconds.
They let the Chiefs take the game over at the end.
That is what most likely worries the Packers HC. If it comes down to my defense stopping the other team? all bets are off.
