Teammate ponders the unthinkable with Crosby

08:33 AM ET 12.27 | As days become weeks for a Penguins team soldiering on without Sidney Crosby, some fears begin to creep into teammates' minds. Although Crosby has been visible at Consol Energy Center, the fact that he hasn't appeared on the ice in almost three weeks suggests it might be awhile until the face of hockey is back in action. "I try not to get too caught up in it," defenseman Matt Niskanen said. ... What if Crosby has another concussion, and the condition is a chronic one for him? "I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about it," Niskanen said. "There is always that scare, guys out there like Marc Savard, who probably aren't coming back. It's always a possibility."

Time to face up to reality. If he isn't even back skating after 3 weeks then something is not right in his head. (you know what I mean) I'm sure there are some doctors already laying out to him the options. Like if you keep playing you'll be a mental vegetable by the time you are 40 and the world doesn't need another Don Cherry.

It's a shame, the best player in the world will never be the same. Even when he comes back, he's one solid, CLEAN hit from being out for a long period of time once again. And a big part of Syd's game is tough, physical play. As a Flyer fan I never thought I'd miss seeing him line up against my team, but I do.

Or, he can take extra time off to get his melon completely healthy. The brain recovery is so unpredictable. Patrice Bergeron was able to overcome two major concussions. Last year in the playoffs he got his bell rung and only missed a couple of games.

the big question is, what kind of a team are they without crosby?

A Playoff contender, but maybe not a cup winner.

Let's Go Pens!!!

They've still got Malkin who is having a nice year so far.

As solid as he has played this year, he obviously has healed up nicely. He has given and received some big hits. I hope the Crosby is able to come back strong. The NHL isn't the same without him.

TEAMMATE PONDERS THE UNTHINKABLE WITH CROSBY...

In retrospect...I was guessing that this article might have been a lot more scandalous...

here's a good question: what's the deal with lecavalier? is he a shell of his former self at this age and without the full compliment of surrounding players he had last year?

Montreal would take him.

QUOTE(#14):

i guess they would. but is there any chance he regains his former glory this season? he's fallen way, WAY off the mark.

Before his big contract he was on pace to become one of the great ones. Maybe all that security has taken something away from his game.

Some players just settle for that one ring.

Not sure he'd want to go there and he has a NTC. If he agrees to waive it, I can see Gauthier making a deal for him, thus burying the franchise into an even deeper hole.

I think it has more to do with his injuries.

How much deeper can they get after picked up Kaberle's crippling contract?

Maybe he's just giving Ovechkin a bigger head start in their own scoring race ??
