Mom: QB leaving Oklahoma State
Posted: Friday January 04, 2008 07:05AM ET
The mother of Oklahoma State junior quarterback Bobby Reid said Thursday night that her son won't be back to play for the Cowboys next season. Rajika Reid said her son is considering two options for his future: declaring for the 2008 NFL draft or transferring to another college for his senior season. After making 20 starts in his career, Reid (6-3, 235) was demoted before OSU's Sept. 14 loss at Troy State. Reid was replaced by backup Zac Robinson, who finished the season as OSU's starter. Following the loss at Troy State, OSU opened Big 12 play at home with a 49-45 win over Texas Tech on Sept. 22. After the win, OSU coach Mike Gundy went on a three-minute tirade to start his news conference. His harsh words were directed at a columnist from The Oklahoman concerning a story addressing why Reid wasn't starting over Robinson. After Gundy defended his former starting quarterback, Reid missed practices on Oct. 17 and Oct. 18 leading up to the Cowboys' homecoming game against Kansas State on Oct. 20.

Okay, let me see if I get this one...you get DEMOTED on your slightly less than mediocre college and team, AND one of the "options" you are considering is going to the NEXT level?
I"M A MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M 40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Report Offensive CommentThe next level is being able to pay a "stand in" for his mommy - so she doesn't have to be embarrassed when Reid wants to be fed while talking on the cell phone.

Report Offensive CommentAt this point I would like take some time to evaluate my options, 1. Leave my career in IT and declare myself eligible for the 2008 draft or 2. Keep working and accept the fact that not all athletes no matter where they play are not NFL caliber....

Report Offensive CommentMaybe Reid has his mom lined up for the Campbell's Chunky Soup commercials already?
Now THAT would be priceless!!!

Report Offensive CommentWish Bobby Reid all the best. He didn't turn out to be the next Vince Young and part of that is his fault and part is the QB coach at my alma mater but it's best he try to find a team to play for next year.
Whatever you do, Bobby, don't try to go pro, you're simply not ready. Your hesitancy to run the ball ever since the injury at the Mizzou game in 2005 has made you a not-so-great QB but that's not to say you don't have the ability. I, for one, saw it when they made Donovan Woods move to another position.
Good luck!

Report Offensive CommentHmmm, if his mom made the announcement, maybe he really as the momma's boy that the Oklahoman article said he was. I wouldn't think that momma's boys make good QB's, especially at the next level. I do think momma's boys can play WR though.

Report Offensive CommentTypical! New trend after being demoted? He's trying to do the ground work for a future NFL showing.

Report Offensive CommentHe ought to show Gundy more loyalty and stay, but if he wants to get to the NFL he has to go to a 1-AA school and prove himself. I wish him the best of luck.

Report Offensive CommentIt's no surprise he's transferring. Had he wanted to stay a part of the team he would've taken a page from Kasnas' backup and moved to wide receiver in an effort to stay on the field and help the team in any way possible ...

Report Offensive CommentAt 6'3 235 pounds he would make a pretty good receiver. He should have changed positions, so I agree with Matty17's assessment.

Report Offensive CommentA big physical receiver, or possibly if he bulked up a decent tight end.

Report Offensive CommentThis is HILarious. Way to prove everything Jenni said about you.
I do have to say, though, that I don't think Oklahoma State handled the QB situation well.

Report Offensive CommentNo, SoonerGirl, Jenni is a tool and should not have written an article which was supposed to be fact based on hearsay and gossip. If that was written about one of OU's players she would have gotten fired - admit it!
