Wright-to-Philly chatter resurfaces

08:21 AM ET 12.28 | In addition to the news that Jorge Posada has talked to Philadelphia, speculation has also centered on another New York player. [A] local blog, "The Philly Phans," ignited an Internet firestorm a few days ago by claiming a source told it the Phillies are talking to the New York Mets about acquiring third baseman David Wright. ... The Wright rumor is far more interesting because everybody knows that having a 29-year-old, five-time all-star capable of hitting 30 home runs and driving in 100 runs is more desirable than having an aging and oft-injured Placido Polanco. You cannot entirely dismiss the Wright rumors because the Mets are a financial mess and they know they need to tear things apart.

A late Christmas present for Phillies phans...............and a NIGHTMARE for the rest of the league.

Would most likely cost you Vance Worley and Domenic Brown.

That would be hard for a Mets fan to take. Salt to the wounds.

The mets are a disgrace.

Sandford and son should be forced to sell them. There is no reason this franchise shouldn't be profitable. One reason only.....

BAD OWNERSHIP

December 28, 2011  11:24 AM ET

Trades within the division are a bad idea.

Who cares? People shouldn't bother watching this team until the Fred Coupon sells the team. Anyone who would buy season tickets is an idiot.

I am not sure why it's such a big deal to Mets fans.

The team won't compete, so what is the point of having a highly paid All Star 3rd baseman. Get value for him and compete in 2 to 3 years.

Vance Worley?!? (Who?) and Domenic .236 career hitter Brown...Really? And why don't you include grandpa charlie manuel's colostomy bag and seal the deal. Delusional.

The Marlins ought to trade Hanley to the Mets for Wright. Hanley's contract is more in line with what the Mets want to pay a shortstop, and the Marlins need a third baseman, an actual third baseman, not a SS convert.

Vance Worley had a sub 3 ERA and might have won rookie of the year if Kimbrel hadn't looked like a HOF closer last season. Brown is a prospect/project that has 'the skies the limit' type talent. The Phils may need to give up more, but those two players are valuable to a cash strapped team like the Mets.

It would be an inept move to trade Worley and Dom Brown for Wright, a player who hasn't been good since 2008.

He looks like he did pretty well in 2010 with 29 HR, 103 RBI, and a .283 BA.
