Pereira rips Gruden as 'loudmouth,' 'blowhard'

08:12 AM ET 12.29 | Mike Pereira has taken his permission to speak freely to new levels. "C'mon man! I'm talking to ESPN announcer and former coach Jon Gruden, because I need to set the record straight. I am not a fan of Gruden's. Not today, not yesterday, not when I worked for the NFL and not when I was working on the field as a side judge. He was a loudmouth as a coach who constantly disrespected officials and he is a blowhard in the broadcast booth who spouts off when he doesn't know what he is talking about. I respect his knowledge about the X's and O's when it comes to coaching and playing the game of football, but I have very little respect for him when it comes to officiating and his knowledge of the rules."

Exactly. By the way, Gruden has a Super Bowl ring after defeating the team he created in Oakland. Not too shabby for the resume.

He used to be the VP of Officiating for the NFL. Now he's a "Rules Analyst" for Fox Sports.

I wish he would comment on how inconsistent and sometimes just plain bad the officiating has been too often Even replays are hard to justify sometimes. What I think anyways..

He had some good teams that he built in Oakland too. He can coach alright.

Not that I'm a Gruden fan....but is this guy Pereira kidding me..his officials are so good they had to expand instant replay rules under his watch....after watching the NFL this year I wonder if the refs even know the rules....

I agree. When Periera left the league and took a commentary job I was looking forward to some honest critique of the officiating from someone who should really understand the standards. Honest critique? I really should've known better.
