Boras explains what's taking so long with Prince

08:18 AM ET 12.30 | On the surface, the signing of Prince Fielder is taking an awfully long time, but Scott Boras has an answer for that. Boras indicated that Fielder has met personally with several owners, though he declined to identify those owners or say how many such meetings have taken place. The Mariners, Cubs, Nationals, Orioles, Rangers and Blue Jays are among the teams that have been linked to Fielder. Boras said the length of the process is one reason why Fielder remains unsigned nearly three weeks after Albert Pujols reached agreement on a 10-year, $254 million free-agent contract with the Angels. "It takes a bit longer because these are ownership decisions," Boras said. ... "[In] these situations, it's an ownership negotiation."

Not the length of the process, rather the length of the contract he's asking for.

This.

Maybe a few GMs realized that Pujols's contract was too much for too long and no one wants to make the same mistake with Fielder.

Are you saying Arte didn't make the decision for the Angels Scott? It's taking so long because you want Pujols money for a player that's not nearly the same caliber.

And Scott Boras as your agent does not exactly speed things up as well.

I don't think there are any owners left who like the idea of giving Scott Boras what he wants.

Translation: The baseball people don't think signing Fielder at his asking price is a good move. So, Boras has to go over their heads to the owners and make non baseball arguments.

Relax, they are still sampling those 73 pages of delicious vegetarian recipes

The reason why it is taking so long is that the usual big market teams are all set at first base. Red Sox have A-Gon, Yanks have Tex, the Mets are poor...

Boras explains what's taking so long with Prince

Is there anyone interested in listening to the professor emeritus of spin?

Boras is a dink, but Prince has real value as a power-hitting, left handed bat in the middle of your order. He's only late twenty's(27 right?) so a 6 year commitment sounds about right for both his agent and their new team. Sure, he's gone vegan, but he'll make someone else in your lineup, like that guy in the 3 hole, instantly more productive because of the looks he'll get with the Prince batting next ... come to Chicago North Side Prince, my Cubbies will treat you like a King ;)

Maybe he wants to be paid by the pound.

With BOTH PHENOMS Harper and Strassburg having Boras as their agent there already exists a GOOD relationship with the Lerner family I say he comes to DC!

Boras suggests that there's a different process for Prince Fielder....that ain't what's holding things up. Perhaps it's these issues;
1. What teams are able to afford him and who already has 1b or DH filled.
2. How much money Boras is looking for.
3. Fielder's overall physical condition versus his age versus the length of their desired contract.

That said, he'd be great for Washington.
