CBA set to pull Big Three apart

08:15 AM ET 12.30 | The Big Three, by way of a luxury tax, threaten to become an even bigger ticket. Depending on how the league's income shapes up, [Miami] could be over the tax threshold on six players. If they're not, they'll be close. If they had a midlevel guy signed on a multiyear deal, he would be due a little more than $3 million. And if they have a draft pick or two on board, they would be in the $1 million range each. ... [When] the hefty tax bills start coming in, the difficulty of building the roster is coupled with some added financial pain. That's why when some say that the new CBA has not done enough to prevent the formation of "superteams" like we've seen in Miami, they're jumping the gun.

Once the luxury tax hits the 3.5 for 1 range even teams like the Lakers will need to reconsider their ways.

I really can't cry for Bosh, Wade and James over this. After the way the acted last summer after the signing. And the was they acted all of last year. I could care less about them. I hope they don't even win one championship.
The odds are against me. But stranger things have happened.

If im not mistaken they also lose some of their ability to sign players if they are over the cap by a certain number....

You're letting the Lakers hype seep into your brain JGB... Save yourself man!
Their pockets aren't that deep and the luxury tax will hurt them seriously in the one place that all teams feel the pain... their wallet.
Dollar for dollar is one thing. 5 dollars to one dollar is a horse of a different color.

Yes... and if they stay over for a certain number of years it goes up even more.
The Lakers have lived the high life for a long time now. Not to mention the C's and the Heat and other teams that are over the cap. They'll find that there is a limit to their credit cards just like everyone else.

Agreed... but again... at 1-1 it was possible... with the new limits... no so much or so easy.

A portion of veteran and rookie salaries don't count twords the cap.(If signed for the league minimum) but still count twords the leauges luxury tax. I dont think a few extra dollars, and that's exactly what it is to these big market owners, will be such a big issue.

It does, but with a max crowd every night coupleled with merchandising income, and all the other ways the teams earn money, it'll be hard to sway these few owners. I think in order to make a significant impact the tax would have to be so stupid that it just won't happen. Just my thoughts on the matter.
