08:18 AM ET 12.31 | It appears Darren Oliver's third stint with the Rangers is now over. According to two major league sources, Oliver is nearing the execution of a contract with the Toronto Blue Jays and will not return to the Rangers bullpen for 2012. Oliver, 41, also pitched for the Rangers from 1993-98 and 2000-01. While the Rangers would not officially acknowledge Oliver would not return, the club had talked about a lesser role with him, which also meant a pay cut off his 2011 salary of $3.25 million. The Rangers had interest in him primarily as a one-batter pitcher against left-handed hitters.

Darren heard that they calculate age on the metric system in Canada and that he would be just 22.

I'm surprised he's only 41. It seems like he's been around forever.

the rangers will have better team than last year, plus the pitching knowledgeable has being upgraded, gregg maddux has joined his brother mike maddux with this two guys together i do expect the pitching rotation be too fine!!

December 31, 2011  08:26 PM ET

the rangers would be better than the angels in their pitching side, perhaps the angels would have better rotation but the rangers are strong in the hitting lineup, the department where the angels are weak and thin its the hitting side, the fact that the halos brought pujols it doesn't mean that they would have better offense, now if in the angels lineup were 3 players like pujols caliber then the halos could have a better options, but with only one power hitter its hard to keep pressure on any team, only if morales its able to bring back the type of offense from 2010 season, and if trumbo its able to became more disciplined at the plate, get more walks - less strikeouts by increasing his offense, by increasing his patience at the plate!!!

Gee, only in his 40's? Isn't he too young to be signed by the Jays?
