10:08 AM ET 12.31 | Texas' head football coach addressed a variety of topics in an all-encompassing state-of-the-program question-and-answer session. Brown said, among other things, that freshman quarterback David Ash has the edge going into spring drills, which begin Feb. 24, after playing the entire bowl game and earning offensive MVP honors. "I think right now we understand that the pecking order would have David taking the first snaps in the spring. But we need Case to get better. Case is going to win some ballgames for us. David also needs to continue to get better."

TU has a QB?

No, they just put someone behind center and call them that. They are taking the LSU approach. Develop an NFL defense in college and you don't have to worry about the QB position.

QUOTE(#6):

So, you are saying they will be back to just 4 wins again next year then.

No, should be better. They played a <hit pot full of freshman and sophomores this year and accepted the growing pains that comes with that. But the defense will still probably have to carry them...plus the Big 12 should be down if Weeden, Jones and RGIII are gone. Me thinks TCU is better than aggie though so that should make it a little tougher.

QUOTE(#9):

LSU just makes you think that, they have 2 QB's better than the two you have.

That's like saying these are the best from an entire litter of runts! Not a keeper in the entire litter. I saw 5-10 QBs at the Texas HS championships I would take over those four!

QUOTE(#5):

Looks to be no better next year for them than this year. So, what will Okie be like next year and will their QB be any good? I take it he is going pro.

Like to see how Bell throws....1-4 for the season, but then he only goes in to rush....not sure how the others are doing..

QUOTE(#7):

So, in other words they will struggle all next year between David and Case, at then end of the year they will be no better than they are now, and then the coach says that they will give them one more year because they will have maturity and then another year like the two before. Mack is on a never ending and never producing cycle, and gets paid big bucks to do so. Then after that season he will state that his assistants needed replacing, not his fault, get another raise, and start this cycle all over again. Good paycheck for him.

I think they know these guys ain't to swift so they will try and make it where they don't have to rely on them to win games...just keep from losing them...ala LSU, Bama, etc.

True....but they say towards the end of the season they aren't young, inexperience kids anymore...they are seasoned veterans....(of course not as seasoned as a junior)...and they still went 1-4 with a close game at TAMU.

Their D did look better against California, but there were a LOT of turnovers in that game...due to TU hard defense (held them to 7 yds on 36 carries) or due to Cali mistakes?

And, at the risk of upsetting some of our 12PAC brethren, was Ash's success due to quality play or Cali defense?

Interesting year coming up in the BigXII*
