10:00 AM ET 01.05 | The Kings remain grounded in last place in the Western Conference, 13 points shy of the final playoff spot with more than half the season completed. Is now the time to pull the parachute and trade a veteran player, such as defenseman Rob Blake, for young talent before the Feb. 26 deadline? "Unfortunately, we're probably going to be in that type of position," said Blake, who turned 38 last month. "We would've rather been battling for a playoff spot." Last weekend, he told a Denver reporter that he would consider waiving the no-trade clause in his contract.

why wouldn't he want out? He doesn't have many years left where he can actually contribute, so why not take a shot at getting out of LA? He can control - for the most part - where he goes by choosing to waive or not waive his no-trade clause, so I see no negatives for him here. Lots of teams out there are looking for defensive help, and a veteran presence is what they want...its just a matter of how many of them can fit his contract under the cap. I can see him being moved at the deadline, to lessen the pressure his contract will put on a team's cap numbers. We'll just have to see who puts together the best package come March

i hear the ducks are rumored to have all but completed a deal to aquire blake in an attempt to strengthen their blueline...

Ducks? You think they can afford a $6 million contract? Not a chance. I could see someone like the Bruins, Coyotes, Sharks, maybe even Dallas knocking on the Kings' door. Question is: Will he waive his no-trade clause to go anywhere but a contender? I'm not sure he would, but hey, he might want out real bad.
CANADA HOCKEY! #1 BABY! TWO GOLDS THIS WEEK, U17'S (Ontario def. USA) AND NOW THE JUNIORS! AWESOME!

This guy is way past his prime and is overpaid. Who the hell would want him?

January 6, 2008  02:44 PM ET

The Rangers would take him in a flash !! They have the history for it and need a Blueline presence like Blake

Oh . . .and did'nt Canada win the Spenglar Cup tourney as well? . . not sure due to it's obscurity

January 6, 2008  03:03 PM ET

Yes Canada took the trifecta WJHC; U17 & Spengler. Cujo in goal for Spengler.

The poor Kings have become the Clippers of old LA. Is it just me or did this reversal of fortunes begin with changing uniforms, logos, and mascots? Bring back the ol' look and attitude and take back California NHL. Otherwise, don't trade Blake ... trade the GM. Sigh ... if not for a bent stick we would have had at least ONE title. Damn Zebras and their Canadian bias ...
