Marlins have serious interest in Garza, too

08:13 AM ET 01.02 | Miami may still not be done shopping. [The Marlins], it seems, will not be satisfied until they add another starting pitcher to complement right-hander Josh Johnson and lefty Mark Buerhle. Cubs righty Matt Garza, 28, certainly would fit. The Marlins, after failing to land Athletics left-hander Gio Gonzalez, have serious interest in Garza, according to major league sources. No deal is close, and the Cubs continue to speak to other clubs, including the Detroit Tigers, sources say. The Tigers, in fact, might rate the upper hand for Garza if they are willing to include right-hander Jacob Turner in a deal. The Cubs are desperate for young starting pitching, according to rival executives, and the Marlins are deeper in position players.

Still waiting to see what the Cubbies give to the Red Sox for Theo...

Theo is playing this well, waiting for someone to blow up his skirt to commit to a deal. The Cubs, however, could lose 100 games in 2012.

A lot of teams have an interest in Garza right now but no signs that the Cubs will trade him.

Kind of like the talk about teams interested in Buchholz before he became a regular part of Theo's Boston rotation. Talk is cheap when the story is good, but a trade never happened.

the marlins are interested in garza? the cubs are interested in some good players from the marlins lineup, its the marlins willing to give up top players for garza through the trade way?? if so then they should be ready to trade stanton, johnson, and at least 3 top prospects!!

The Blue Jays have the upper hand on landing Garza. Because the Cubbies are looking for young pitching and The Marlins have garbage pitching prospects. The Tigers have Jacob Turner but they might not want to trade him. The Blue Jays on the other hand have a stockpile of young high ceiling pitching prospects and are desperate for Garza to pitch in the AL East.

Good points. A rotation of Garza-Romero-Morrow-McGowan-Cecil looks unspectacular but solid.

I don't recall Theo, or anyone associated with Cubs management, stating Garza was actually available for a trade.
