Winter Classic at Yankee Stadium?

08:25 AM ET 01.02 | Among the candidates to host the next Winter Classic is the New York metro. The N.H.L. has looked at Citi Field, MetLife Stadium, the Yale Bowl and West Point as possible sites, Collins said before the Flyers-Rangers alumni game at Citizens Bank Park Saturday afternoon. "There are a lot of really great venues in the New York area," Collins said. "Yankee Stadium is obviously a special place, but we can't get in there for the next couple of years" because of college bowl game commitments. ... Collins suggested that a game on the West Coast was unlikely. "We have a window at 1 o'clock on New Year's Day, so that limits your ability to go west," he said.

All those lobbying efforts to bring the Winter Classic to Honolulu just went down the drain....

Well, that and I don't think people are pining for an Avalance-Wild winter classic.

St. Louis-Phoenix probably wouldn't work either...

Yankee Stadium would be a cool place for the game. Sadly, Toronto doesn't have an appropriate venue (an outdoor stadium with room for more than 50,000) - the SkyDome/Rogers Centre, won't work...of course, we'd need an NHL caliber team to host the game and that's not happening any time soon.

Also unlikely that NBC would have a Canadian team on the schedule for that game.

I don't care if it's Hershey vs. Wilkes-Barre, I'd go West in person for a Honolulu Winter Classic, way, way, way, way WEST!

It would have been nice if they did it at the old Stadium but at the time having the game in January would have set back the demolition plans so it wasn't feasable. I don't see the draw having it at one of the newer stadiums but the Yale Bowl sounds intrieging.

And I could probably find out some tickets....

If we could drag you from the beach....

You got that right. I might even stop and watch the game.

Jerry Jones should try to land one.

Not like he has any post season conflicts to worry about...

Now you sound like me Otis. 'Skins never play football in at that time either. Oh well. Now we can root AGAINST teams in the play-offs!

:-)

Why the Rangers again?

I want Detroit and the Leafs.

Is it possible to have a game on the Rideau Canal? That would be cool.

Throw a couple of bleachers up, put some boards on, and play on a natural rink. I don't think it would be possible, but it would be cool.

Not going to happen for the Leafs. NBC would rather pick the Wild before they let a Canadian team play in the Winter Classic.

Too narrow in too many places until you get to Dow's Lake.

I agree with your point. But I really think that an original six game with the Canadiens playing would be a winner. Montreal-Detroit or NYR.
