Bryzgalov's act wearing thin on Flyers

08:30 AM ET 01.02 | It's getting harder to know what to believe these days from Ilya Bryzgalov. "I never let anyone get inside of my head. If you want to be honest, a serious question? I always lie to you guys," said Bryzgalov, who surprisingly made the announcement he won't start Monday's Winter Classic against the New York Rangers at Citizen Bank Park, ticking off Flyers coach Peter Laviolette. ... Bryzgalov's act is wearing thin with the organization. He has already been told to stop beating himself up in the media after his famous meltdown (about being lost in the woods) after a game against the Winnipeg Jets. It was interesting that when players spoke on the record, they mentioned how hard Bobrovsky works.

Well, only what, 8 years left on that contract?

January 2, 2012  08:41 AM ET

Bryzgalov, Luongoal and DiPietro.

3 reasons why you don't give goalies long term contracts.

And still one of the top teams in the league - amazing

Mr. Holmgren is Mr. Snyder's Rasputin. Flushing away loads of money.. the Bryz signing was insane for terms and length. What has this guy ever won anyway? What has he proven? INstead of trading away Carter and Richards for offensive depth, he should have flipped one or both of them to a team for an elite 'tender... Rinne? Kipprussoff?

They also gave Van Reimsdyke a nice fat long term deal as well & that kid is as soft as Charmin.Well, at least they still have their best two forwards. Oh, wait, no they don't.

Wait till Giroux becomes a free agent.....

He reminds me of two old J. Geils songs 'Musta got lost" and "First I look at the purse"

Go figure. In all fairness to Bryz, if he would have been in goal against the Pens he would have lookied great too. The Pens take a lot of shots but they seem to only hit the goalie or the post.

I feel like saying 'told you so'.

I said a long time ago that Bryzgalov would be a terrible fit with the Flyers, and that Bob was gonna be better than Bryzgalov this year.

When? Where? How much longer?

Does he want to come to Toronto?

Who am I kidding, of course he wants to come to the Centre of the Universe.

Giroux will be a Leaf by next season!

When this discussion was going on over Bryz it seemed to make sense to everyone if they gave him a 3 year deal. Everyone saw him as a mentor to Bobky who definitely has a lot of potential. The problem is the absurd length of the contract.

Bryzgalov was just a terrible fit, at any amount of years.

He came from a defensive trap system and he sucked in the playoffs. Did the Flyers really need to go out and get another Russian goalie who has a history of sucking in the playoffs? Have they not had enough of those yet?

He signed a three-year extension last year.

This is what you get when the owner gets too involved in player personel. Ed Snider pretty much told Flyers GM Paul Holmgren to get a goalie and so Homer traded for the rights to negotiate with Bryz and WAY overpaid him. 9 years for a 31 year old goalie??? They could have signed Vokoun for 1 year like the Caps did, as he would be insurance if Bobrovsky wasn't ready for primetime this year. But now Bob has played better then Bryz, but they are going to have to eventually go with Bryz because of his contract. What a mess!
