08:02 AM ET 01.03 | After Lovie Smith's season-ending press conference, we're still no closer to learning the fate of Mike Martz. [A] day after concluding his eighth season, Smith wouldn't name his offensive coordinator for 2012, fueling speculation Mike Martz will not return and the Bears will be searching for their third play-caller in four seasons. ... While he praised elements of the offense at times in a 22-minute news conference, Smith didn't take a hard stand for Martz. "We did a lot of good things offensively," Smith said. "But right now we're evaluating everything. Mike's a part of that. Mike is a guy that's been around a few years. Got to have a chance to sit down with Mike to see exactly which way he wants to go and which way we want to go."

If he puts Martz's status in limbo then , someone needs to put Lovies status in limbo

Change OCs all you want Lovie... it doesn't do you much good if you don't have an O-line capable of protecting the QB.
Note to Jerry Angelo: Pay Matt Forte!

Wouldn't that be a coup if Lovie was let go and Martz promoted to HC.

True. And well he should be. As for Martz, his status has been up in the air ever since he got there.
Matrz happens to thinks of himself as an offensive genius. Problem is, he can't find anyone to agree with him.

I can't wait to see who they replace him with. Rumor has it that it's going to be Director of Player Personnel Tim Ruskell, who Angelo had reportedly been grooming to take his place eventually. I don't want a Jerry Jr. to take over... at this point Bears fans can do without a "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" scenario at GM.

Bears CEO Ted Phillips has said that no other changes will be made, to include Lovie. Looks like he's safe for now.

Good question. $19M under the cap at the beginning of the season, and no major changes in the O-line. It's not like that hadn't been a leftover issue from the previous season.

Raiding the Cowboys of their cast-offs this past off-season (to include alleged drug kingpin-wannabe Sam Hurd) didn't help him either.
