08:17 AM ET 01.03 | On New Year's Eve, a fan at Oracle Arena reportedly took a look at Spencer Hawes and thought of Bill Walton. Maybe it was the beard coupled with the made jump shots by a 7-foot tall white center that led to such words being blurted out. ... [Last year, Hawes], then the new kid in town, was out of shape. To add to his problems, he hurt his back in training camp, which set him back 16 days of practice. He proceeded to average seven points and 5.7 rebounds -- numbers that dazzled no one and frustrated many. As a result the Sixers' center is playing on a one-year qualifying offer. At season's end he will be an unrestricted free agent. "I would be lying if I didn't say that was a part of this," Hawes said Monday afternoon.

Hawes got potential..... just stay healthy!

he has looked hawesome (tm) so far this season. he's been hitting the glass, hitting the outside j, playing d, and is showing that he gives a **** on the court. maybe the fact that the sixers drafted a similar player who could be his replacement has gotten him motivated.

that being said, i'm tempering my enthusiasm with the fact that they've played a couple teams with weak or injured centers plus the fact that it's a long season.

Can you guys make any noise this year?

i think that barring any major injuries in the atlantic, they will fight for 2nd (w/ boston) and could possibly pull a 1st round playoff series upset.
they have nice chemistry and a good bench.
they also have lots of question marks... but who doesn't?
