EJax too pricey for Yankees

08:28 AM ET 01.03 | Perhaps in another season, not all that long ago, Edwin Jackson would already have signed in New York. [It] would appear Jackson would be an ideal candidate for the Yankees rotation, which is still a card or two shy of a full deck, right? Wrong. Once again, the reason is that five-letter word that has repeatedly reared its ugly head this off-season: M-O-N-E-Y. Sources tell me that Jackson's asking price -- a five-year deal at approximately $12 million per -- takes the Yankees out of that hunt. ... Jackson's agent, Scott Boras, has given at least one Yankee beat writer I know -- OK, it was me -- the hard-sell on Jackson to the Yankees but from what I am being told by the club, Boras is peddling his papers on the wrong street corner.

I'm amused by the way the media is trying to spin this. They're painting a picture of the Yankees standing there helplessly with their empty pockets hanging out of their pants.

From my perspective, I'm more shocked by a 28 year old journeyman pitcher with a career ERA of 4.46 asking for a five year contract.

Good for the Yankees for pass at that price. The reports of their weak pitching are seriously exagerated.

That's too high a price tag for a mediocre pitcher with a tinge of upside.

January 3, 2012  09:24 AM ET

I wonder what happened to this site that makes it so badly.

Yeah he is definately overpricing his cleant Boras. Classic behaviour

Damnit. I forgot to watch the Winter Classic. That's the one hockey game a year I try to watch.

Scott Boras is a fool.

Anyone else think that the whole "everyone gets a nickname no matter how bad they are and how much of a stretch it is" is the stupidest thing that sportswriters do on a consistent basis?

EJAX? Edwin Jackson gets a stupid nickname?

Stupid.

5 years and 12 million per year??? Since when does a .500 pitcher(or worse) warrant 5 years AND 12 million a year, well, aside from Gil Meche ... oh never mind, his agent is Scott Boras ... Scott "Ice Bank Mice Elf" Boras ;)

Yes, as evidenced by the complete lack of success he and his clients have achieved. . .

January 3, 2012  09:35 AM ET

5 years and $60M for Edwin Jackson? Sure, that's gonna happen...........

Yeah, it's cool. I was in Chicago a few years ago when it was there -- didn't get to the game, but it was fun to sit at a bar and watch it.

Any team would be a fool to take him at that asking price. Another average player Boras is hyping up.
