08:41 AM ET 01.03 | At least Teemu Selanne has been consistent with his NHL returns. [Selanne] has dealt with the annual summertime decision of whether to lace up his skates for another NHL season and hasn't surprised anyone by returning to the Ducks each time. But with his team possessing a 10-21-6 record and being a near lock at missing the postseason, the franchise icon might have to consider another tough call -- whether to ask for a trade to a Stanley Cup contender and leave. ... "I've read some stories in the papers too about what the situation could be," said Selanne, who took the day off for maintenance. "To be honest, I haven't really thought about that too much. I still believe that we can make the playoffs."

I have a feeling he would retire instantly if a trade was insisted upon by management

Amen! That would put an exclamation point to an illustrious career! Take it back to where all begun.

Haven't seen a player retire instantly in years, HC. He'd probably mull it over for weeks before making a decision, change it then change it again.

Selanne to Winnipeg? No, a trade to the Kings makes much more sense. It keeps him in the same city, and gives him a real shot at the Cup.

Of course, they should wait another 5 weeks and make sure the Kings stay in the hunt.

Winnipeg averages 40 below in February, at the trade deadline - I hope he goes(if not to the kings), and wears number 13 again. He's amongst the finest, in every respect, to play the game!!!

he'd go to the wings to lower their starting roster's average age.

Exactly. For him to even remotely consider Winnipeg, the Jets need to actually have a chance at winning the Cup. Enough said.

He needs a team - like the kings - desperate for offense. But the excitement he'd bring to Winnipeg would take them deep into the playoffs - no ones getting past Boston. Teemu's earned the right to write his own ticket.

Selanne to Winnipeg? The ownership is different, the team isn't the same team (they went to Phx, remember?), its a different arena, its been 15 years, and the Jets are only marginally better than the woeful Ducks.
Take the Jets deep into the playoffs ... uh ... what? Playoffs? You talkin about playoffs (cue Jim Mora)? In Winnipeg? Playoffs?
He's played more years for Anaheim than for anybody. He's a Duck, Anaheim is his home, if he's a hall of famer, he'll go in quacking.
