08:26 AM ET 01.04 | Chris Petersen may have Penn State to thank for a lucrative new contract. Boise State has requested preliminary approval from the State Board of Education for a new contract for [Petersen] -- increasing his salary to at least $2 million per year. The entire contract won't go to the State Board until February, but the school wants the board to approve the $375,000 raise for this year at a special meeting Wednesday. Petersen surfaced as a possible candidate for several high-profile jobs in November and December and CBS Sports reported Tuesday morning that Penn State had not given up on hiring him. ... Petersen's new contract will be for five years with a $2 million compensation package, plus incentives in the first year.

We'll see how much he's really worth after a season without Moore.

Their OC is a "candidate" for the UF OC position.

He coached prior to Moore...but losing Moore will be very, very difficult to replace. Guy had brains and heart.

Better check with the rusty cows about how that worked out. That being said, Boise took a long time to build that offense so it might be unrealistic to expect one overnight. But, with UTx and UF resources, one would think it should happen fast.

Another candidate is Jay Norvell, weird because they are both spread guys and Mus wants to run Pro style. However, take that former with a grain of salt because the media will throw out names until one sticks.

UTK took their famed DC and it didn't work out too well...

Although, I think he was pretty good.

IMHO, "good coaches" can adjust schemes to the players they have. Many disagree though. Some people think coaches that don't have the talent to play smash mouth football should do so anyway. In their view, not playing smash mouth footbal is not "real" football.

UTk might need to shake the etch-a-sketch and start all over!

can't afford it when there are way too many ex-coaches on the buyout payroll. I think O'Dools has a 5 mil buyout right now.

You ready to lose Howard to LUS in a few weeks :)

Nothing would surprise me. While it would be nice to get Howard, UF has good young DBs, including this recruiting class so it is not huge area of concern. Playmakers at WR is the biggest need still not met, Mus needs to get Diggs and/or Aghlor. Hopefully the OC hire will help with that.

LUS is loaded at DB and Howard is still a take.. #1 CB is too good to pass up...

More and more I am not looking into recruits until they get on campus. Too many guys have left Gainesvill after a semester.

He's worth alot more as a human, just by not going to that hell hole Penn state.
