Yankees can't find a taker for Burnett

08:20 AM ET 01.05 | Critics might argue this is no small wonder. The Yankees have had no success in their efforts to trade right-hander A.J. Burnett, who is owed $16.5 million in each of the next two seasons. The Pirates expressed interest at one point, sources say, and a rival executive speculated that the Braves could pursue Burnett if they trade right-hander Jair Jurrjens. ... Burnett, however, is guaranteed $16.5 million in each of the next two seasons, and teams are asking the Yankees to pay most or all of his remaining salary, sources say. The Yankees still want to add a starting pitcher, but are discouraged by the current prices of free agents such as Kuroda, Roy Oswalt and Edwin Jackson.

You think?? This was amongst one of the worst signings in baseball history. You can't just through money at everything NY.

There have been many players who have signed big and come up short in NY.. Burnett just the latest. Kenny Rogers, Jason Giambi, Kevin Brown, Hideki Irabu, Randy Johnson, Raul Mondesi, Danny Tartabull etc.
Yankees are not a great fix for everybody, clearly.

I think it would. If Theo could unload Zambrano, Cashman should be able to give away AJ.

The difference is that Zambrano can still bring it when he is focused.

Sure they could, that is what they turned down. But why pay his salary and not have him?
He is not broken or injured. He is a head case who still has above average talent. Pitch him and see, that is what they will do.

Burnett can still pitch. You underestimate him.

So can Burnett when focused. Between the two, I would rather take a chance on AJ.

I don't think they are that concerned about moving him. Look, they won 97 games last year, most in the AL and second in MLB.
This is about finding a number two pitcher, but did not Nova go 16-4 his rookie year last year?

If Cashman and Co are willing to swallow that putrid contract ....they can send him back to where he originally came from ....The New York Mets.....we'll take him.....we're obviously in the market for everyone's rejects....

Agree. There are plenty of teams that would like to have him, they just want to see how badly the Yankees want to get rid of him.
They do not want to that badly, he is not a clubhouse problem.
