08:22 AM ET 01.05 | The Rangers and catcher Mike Napoli appear unlikely to agree on a long-term deal in Texas. General manager Jon Daniels said the two sides are far apart and are focused on a one-year deal that will avoid arbitration. "We love Mike and we're not closing the door on anything but right now we are focused on a one-year deal," Daniels said. Daniels also made it clear Tuesday afternoon that the Rangers are not interested in free agent first baseman Prince Fielder. The Rangers are focused on getting something done with pitcher Yu Darvish. They have until Jan. 18. If negotiations fall apart with Darvish, the Rangers might turn their attention to Fielder. But right now the Rangers expect Mitch Moreland to be their first baseman.

Best player in the playoffs and he isn't worth being signed long term??

First they have to pay Darvish, then Hamilton, then Napoli, then Kinsler. They also need to think about locking up Andrus, who is now eligible for arbitration. Plus Nelson Cruz is going to start to get expensive. All this happens in the next couple of years. Payrolls growing boys.

You have to trust JD and Nolan with their plan...I think they have earned it. Let's see as much as possible before rushing out and extending someone without a complete body of work. Also, Hamilton will not be resigned for a crazy number; they will let him walk if needed. And I agree - you can't give crazy money to a guy who is always hurt and will more than likely break down because of the abuse to his body over the years. He has been great, but you can't pay based on rewards of the past (ask the Yankess how that is working out with Jeter).

Think Napoli will be after Kinsler and Andrus, and as far as Cruz, his injury history really hurts him getting a big payday and long term contract.

that tell you that the rangers are a very impredicted franchise, napoli should get a 125/ 5 years deal regardless of the other players issues, did the rangers let down napoli by saying tthat they wouldn't give him a long term deal?YES, this rangers are careless about this player, to me napoli does deserve a long term deal who cares about any other player? hamilton? he has proved that he its a injuried-prone player, napoli has prove to the rangers that he can produce whenever the club asking to help the team!!

Signing him to a deal to avoid arbitration was the smart move

signing him to a deal to avoid arbitration it was like a slap in napoli's face, should napoli demand a trade from the club to another team? he has every right to refuse to stay in the rangers franchise, why? because the team has show him that they do not care about what he wants or what he expect from the rangers club!!

January 5, 2012  10:44 PM ET

torrealba should be suspended 65 games in the big leagues, and without torrealba the rangers will have to give napoli what he does deserve, one year deal? please that's like telling him how bad hitter he was last season!!
