08:28 AM ET 01.06 | NHL hockey at the Big House? Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon confirmed Thursday that he has been approached by the NHL about playing host for the Winter Classic, in what would be the league's sixth annual New Year's Day outdoor game. "We have been approached by the NHL about utilizing our facility for the 2013 Winter Classic," Brandon said in a statement. "There are a lot of complex circumstances that need to be ironed out before anything moves forward. We will have more to say if/when something materializes." The NHL has yet to announce which teams would play in next year's Winter Classic, but the fact that Brandon has been approached suggests rumors about the Detroit Red Wings being eyed as potential participants to be true.

Or late at night, or at lunch, or most any other time.

Well, it's 4 hours from Pittsburgh, give or take, while you need a passport for Leafs fans. So not that easy a guess. They already did Hawks-Wings.

Eh, the Leafs fans already have their passports for going to Buffalo because they can't get tickets at the ACC.

I could see the NHL putting the Wild in the Winter Classic. Minnesota is a huge hockey state, and the Wild are finally a decent team.

the "window of opportunity" for the Wild being a good team open and shut in the first 40 games of the year.

No picnics allowed in Detroit unless you wear the prerequisite Kevlar body suit.

January 6, 2012  10:55 AM ET

I would expect Toronto, Winnipeg, or Minnesota...but considering Butthead it will be Pittsburgh, again.

January 6, 2012  11:00 AM ET

Have it in Buffalo so Bills fans can get a home game back
