10:09 AM ET 01.07 | Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon was asked on a radio interview on KIRO-AM 710 in Seattle about Oklahoma State star wide receiver Justin Blackmon, who is skipping his senior season to enter April's NFL draft. Moon compared Blackmon to former Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant of the Cowboys. "He's a beast, isn't he? He's like Dez Bryant with all of his brain cells," Moon said. "He's a guy that has all those skills that Dez Bryant has but he's not the knucklehead that Dez Bryant has turned out to be with Dallas. And a much better route runner than Dez Bryant is, but a very tremendous talent."Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked Friday morning on KRLD-FM 105.3 about Moon's recent comments comparing Blackmon to Bryant. "I think certainly Dez is everything that we had hoped he would be as a player and he knew and we knew that he had some off-the-field challenges that were not of substance nature, which is big-time important, but was more maturity," Jones said. "He hasn't disappointed in terms of how we evaluate him but he has certainly made improvement in those areas. You're always hesitant because we know that any type of behavioral situation that the next morning you could have a different story. But I'm really pleased how in a positive way, and I use the term of arrow going up, the way Dez is doing. As far as a player who can help us win, he is that. He is everything that we thought he would be and we will and want to get the ball in his hands more."

Note to Mr. Moon (who I respect tremendously)...

Learn something about the kid before you start calling him a knucklehead. There is more to his situation than his poor spending habits (almost all of which are cleared up) and the "pants hanging' down" incident at North Park Mall (not exactly a haven for black kids locally).

Oh - by the way - if we didn't need defensive help so badly I would take Blackmon in a nano second. He is a beast!

Pants hanging down?

Pants hanging down?

He and his buddies were at an affluent (in the management's eyes... not in mine) mall dressed as kids do nowadays with their drawers showing. Mall management told them to pull their pants up. They refused. Mall kicked them out and made a scene of it.

Same week Deion Sanders made his comments demeaning Bryant and used the mall incident as an example of his immaturity.

Two weeks later Deion Sanders Jr. was kicked out of same mall. Same situation and same reason. His daddy hasn't said much about his son's immaturity.

How old is Deion Sanders son?

Well, Nobody's Perfect!!!

Deion Sanders Jr. is a senior in high school. However, if I remember correctly, his mall incident was due to him attempting to use a credit card without any identification and his reaction to not being able to conduct his transaction. There could have been a second incident at the mall with Sanders Jr and sagging pants so I can't say that Mr. Driftwood is wrong. That being said, the expected maturity level of a high school student is less than that of a man. Even if that man is a professional athlete.

High school senior and a good kid. From all I read, very humble and no the kind of kid that would put himself in a bad situation.

Makes it all the more curious that he or Dez would end up in North Park Mall in the first place. I have plenty of black friends that simply refuse to go there and have stayed away for years. All have told me the same thing - they are made to feel uncomfortable from the minute the walk in the door.

I wouldn't go there and I'm white. I'm not in their upscale demographic.

I believe you are right about the credit card...

If this kid had a father around to check his dumb moves, he would be a different person.

Yep... Or even a mother to whack him along side of the head.

I don't know how "around" Bryant's father was but, it doesn't sound like he was the best role model. If you remember the 2010 Combine, there was controversy about what Bryant's parents did "professionally".

These women need to be fined or jailed for out of wedlock births. There are more than enough bass-turds to go around.

Are you on dope. At 50 -80K per year to put somebody in prison the last thing we need are more religion based laws. We're already paying absurd taxes to lock up pot smokers and other non dangerous "criminals".

January 7, 2012  11:45 AM ET

Moon is right. Blackmon is a much better route runner and a smarter player.

Dez doesn't understand, or doesn't care, where he should be on the field when the ball is NOT coming his way. He doesn't carry his defender(s) away from the play where he's supposed to. He doesn't set up for downfield blocks properly. He's a streetballer. This is what happens when you fast-track a kid out of college into the pros.

His father wasn't around. His mother wasn't around. His family wasn't around.

The kid had as much of a dysfunctional youth as anyone I've ever read about. It's amazing he is where he is right now.

It's why I root for him to mature and succeed. He could be one hell of a role model.

He's a work in progress on a number of levels.

Jury still out...I'll see where he's at in 5 years....hate the Cowboys but always root for someone to mature and get things.
