T-Wolves waiting for J.R. Smith's release?

08:06 AM ET 01.09 | In addition to waiting until sunnier days in Minnesota, the Timberwolves could consider making a trade or pony up for a free agent point guard. [Wes Johnson does] have the kind of wiry, athletic body that often succeeds in the NBA. The team's best option is to give him time to fulfill that promise they saw in him, if he can find the confidence and assertiveness to do so. ... The Wolves pursued free agents Jamal Crawford and Arron Afflalo and signed Barea instead. The best shooting guard still available is J.R. Smith, the former Nugget who won't be released from his Chinese team until February at the earliest. The Wolves could offer the $5 million midlevel exception.

On a veteran team like the Lakers, Spurs, or Celtics he "might " be worth the risk. To put a guy like that on a young team would be a disaster.

Kobe, Derrick Fisher, and perhaps Matt Barnes could hold him accountable. Nothing like that exist on the Timberwolves.

I think Glen Taylor has spent all the money he made off KG so now he's gotten into the business of signing players that will wreck the team so he can have a legitimate excuse to amass cheap players from the draft. It's a shame for the game but that's what we get when a game becomes business.

T Wolves have a young team with a decent core, they dont need JR's distractions. do yourselves a favour pass him up ,stop picking up PG and get a decent wingman, keep rubio and get a head stron veteran. Im not saying they have a championship team right now,but they do have the blueprints to a noisemaker.

Exactly! This is why the lockout was such rubbish...the owners are losing money bc they refuse to put out a quality product that ppl will actually want to pay to see! They are only concerned with lining their pockets with that luxury tax, tv money, etc....This franchise hasnt done ONE THING to improve its standing since trading the Big Ticket but yet the fans should remain loyal? Yeah ok..

He's a cancer and you have to hold a gun to his head to make him pass. Not what a young team needs

sounds like he's referring to j.r. smith as a richardson-type guy.
why not just call him j.r. smith?
they're 2 different guys and isn't j.r. the guy that we're talking about?
