09:40 AM ET 01.09 | Salomon Kalou has jetted back to London to open talks over a move to Arsenal. The Chelsea striker was in Dubai with the Ivory Coast to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations later this month. Arsene Wenger is a big fan of Kalou and is confident he can tempt him into the switch. Kalou would cost only $5 million in the transfer window with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

Would this move improve arsenal? I don't think it does.

I think it does, actually. Typical Wenger move: cheap deal that improves the team, but doesn't improve it enough.

Gives a bit of cover for the inevitable Robin van Persie injury.

$5 million for Kalou? Are they aware that he plays in the EPL? That's a steal!! [/sarcasm]

Kalou still doesn't play defense, right? Then, no.

Apparently she got away with some serious bruising. Very lucky, indeed.

Yeah, that was nice. Have to give credit to a great strike. Nice to see Bolton brought out the full A squad to see what it is like to play against the Championship level teams...

Indeed. Also, can play on the left wing when whomever is playing there loses confidence at a crucial point in the season.

Mac Town has quite an attack!!!!

.... at least better than Everton.

Good news: Everton has conceded only 22 goals this season! (5th)

Bad news: Everton has scored only 20 goals this season. (16th)

Just in case we're changing venues:

A few thoughts that I did not touch upon on the FB page...

-I came away from yesterday's game with a ton of respect for Man City. They played their **** off and deserved a draw to force a replay. Years ago, that sort of performance would have been typical of a United side with Keane, Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Stam, Schmeichel, Sheringham, Irwin and Pallister. Somehow, while we were all making jokes about Merc City and buying your way to success (something that's been blown out of proportion, especially by United fans who are pissing and moaning about not spending in the transfer market), Mancini brought on some pretty damn good players who, believe it or not, give a ****. Kompany, de Jong, Silva (who's the best player in the EPL right now, bar none), Balotelli, Kolarov, Richards, Johnson, Hart, etc., end up working as a great mix of bombastic personalities and fiercely confident players who play every game believing their going to win, even when logic dictates they shouldn't. United used to be this way. And until that attitude reappears at Old Trafford, the league is going to City.

-It was pretty rad when we went up 3-0 in the first half and the cameras panned to show Beckham in the stands, Scholes on the bench and even Roy Keane in the house. Like, "Sweet, they're getting the band back together!" And then it got to 3-2 with Scholes brainfarting all over the Etihad Stadium and me suddenly wondering if Fergie's strategy was, in fact, to get the band back together.

Look, I've always respected Scholes and I love that he's stayed with the club and is willing to come back and give it one more go. But, seriously, that's our **** answer for midfield help? A 38 year-old retiree? It honestly makes me wonder if Fergie secretly inquired through back channels if David Beckham was available on a two-month loan to help out as well. Hell, I wonder if Fergie tried to make up with Keane to see if he would consider strapping on his boots again.

Read that previous paragraph again. I just threw out three scenarios that, had you told me in August any one of the three was going to happen, I would have donkey punched your mama. Now, one of them has already happened, one could still happen and one is still ridiculous but not so much given recent events.

-The more I see Anders Lindegaard play, the more I wonder why hell Fergie shelled out for David de Gea. Just so we're clear, I'm not saying Lindegaard is the new Schmeichel, although I like his odds of success better than DdG at this point. He's still rough around the edges, although his command of his defenders is vastly superior to DdG at this point. But for that money, I would have rather brought in Charlie Adam and even Joe Cole (I know, I know, just kill me now) to shore up the midfield a bit. I've nothing against DdG and I think he could end up being a great keeper down the road. But he's got a lot to learn still.

-Rio Ferdinand. Dude, I've always liked you and I'll always be glad we've had you on the squad. But it's time, Rio. Seriously, it's time.

-Phil Jones. I'm giving you a wide berth because of how awesome you were in the first half of the season, the fact you're only 18 and this is the first time in your life you've ever been on a good team. But you're 6'4". When the back four is you, Rio's Decrepit Corpse, Smalling and Evra, you need to stay in the center of the park. This drifting out to the wing like you're Carlos Alberto? It's cute when you're playing Wigan and all. But with Vidic out and highly unlikely to ever return to form, with Rio being dead and all, with Evra being shadowed by William H. Macy's character in The Cooler and Smalling being, well, Smalling, we need you to grow up in a hurry and be the steady hand in the center of defense. Now.
