08:14 AM ET 01.10 | Dodgers manager Don Mattingly does have dog in the 2011 NL MVP conversation, though he'd likely prefer we weren't still talking about it. [Mattingly] said he hopes that Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun is successful in appealing his positive test for a banned substance, but that it would "make sense" to revote on the MVP award, or strip Braun of the award if it is found that he indeed used a banned substance. ... "I don't want to see anything bad come out of it for him," Mattingly said. When asked if a player who tested positive for a banned substance should be stripped of the MVP award, Mattingly answered, "I don't know. It makes sense though, a little bit. It's not 10 years later, it's a month later."

Donny Baseball is exactly right, a re-vote should be cast and Braun should be removed from the candidacy.

This coming from a guy who seemed to hit the ball into the upper deck regularly at Yankee Stadium, then suddenly can't hit a pop fly over the 225 foot right field wall even if Jeffrey Maier was sitting there with a fishing net trying to help him out.

Hey Mattingly, Jose Canseco is on the phone for you. Check your motives.

I agree that there should be a re-vote, but you and I both know this will never happen. MLB and sportwriters are unbelievably gutless when it comes to confronting issues like this.Braun loses his MVP, so should Bonds, so should McGwire

McGwire never won an MVP. Bonds did win 7. 3 clean (should have been 4).

So should Canseco, A-Rod, Giambi, and Juan Gonzalez. While we are at it, strip Roger Clemens of his Cy Youngs he won from 1996 on.

Gently disagree that others should lose thiers. Only because we really don't know the full impact the PEDs helped out those many years ago. But to get tagged a month later... That's a different story IMHO. Re-vote if the appeal fails....

I agree with you Lex. A month later is a definite revocation. The funny thing is that his positive test came well before the vote. MLB is good at testing, but bad at sharing results. i.e. Palmero, Rafael.

Baseball's got Big Credability Issues, Don't expect Bud Light to anything about it, after all he is The Commissioner of Drugs & PED's. Great Job Bud, keep up your HIGH Standards!!!

too many players are in the wrong path, but like the old saying goes, you remain innocent untill being found guilty, other than that everybody keep dancing to the same tune!!

January 10, 2012  09:54 AM ET

strip off from his award? then the league should strip bonds from his homerun record, braun peds thing happen after a month? and bonds tend years ago? when a player disgrace himself there shouldn't be any type of consideration, a rules are rules that players and teams should follow!!!

You've managed to butcher a few old sayings.

every player who has screw his life and tarnish their baseball career don't deserve any type of oportunity in the field of HOF, the black side will remain in their locker and wherever they go,, clemens, bonds, ramires, braun, and the list follows all the way to queens!!!

January 10, 2012  10:00 AM ET

Would be nice if we could go back and correct things but you know that's not going to happen.
Maybe they should have candidates "declare their eligibilty" for awards from now on by having them pass a drug test or disclosing the results of their past tests for each year.

if the MLB refuse to accept players mistakes things can turn a little ugly eventually, the league most follow their own poliza as they had being doing untill now!!
