Boras waiting on Darvish?

08:23 AM ET 01.11 | In the eyes of many, Scott Boras looks to be waiting to see if Texas signs Yu Darvish. The Rangers have until Jan. 18 to get a deal done. ... [The] Rangers need Darvish to replace the departed C.J. Wilson, and Darvish needs the Rangers if he wants to pitch in MLB next season. But if those talks fall apart (similar to last year's top posted pitcher, new Mariner Hisashi Iwakuma, who failed to reach agreement with the A's and went back to Japan), then the Rangers would have an extra $100 million or so burning a hole in their pocket. At that point, with Ryan mindful of the fact that the Angels have added Albert Pujols (as well as Wilson), it's very possible the Rangers would jump into the Fielder fray.

That would be a brutal lineup to face with Fielder in Arlington.

True, but with the lineup they already have, plus the contracts they will have to adress over the next couple of years, Prince is a luxury they really don't need.

Unless that TV deal they just struck is Jed Clampett like (black gold..Texas tea)...I don't see Fielder and Darvish landing there...Darvish makes more sense to replace Wilson...but that lineup will still be real tough without Fielder...

Just a quick drive by ...Sarge has a job interview .....check back later..n

Good Luck Sarge.

I see Darvish ending up back in Japan. I just can't see Texas paying Darvish 17-19 mil on top of the 9 mil they paid to just to break rice cakes with him.

That's 26-28 mil, per season, for a pitcher that hasn't thrown a pitch. I don't think that Darvish will take a lower offer.

This ends badly for Texas.

Good luck Sarge. Although I can't believe there would be much of a market out there for Stalag prison guards these days.

Not really... If an agreement isn't reached, they get the posting fee back. Then they get to consider the likes of Kuroda and Jackson.

I agree that Darvish is an unknown and he may be asking too much. But in my opinion - worth what you paid for it - the Rangers are fine. They have options.

Borass meanwhile is being shunned. The horror!!!

Hoos wishes you luck.

Maybe this was Texas' intention all along. Win the bidding on Darvish but don't sign him, ensuring that no other team gets him. Then pick up Fielder on the cheap (relatively) since no other team has made any real offers to him.

Desperation is a stinky cologne.

The latest rumors on MLB radio this morning were that the Rangers and Darvish were far apart on dollar figues. I say Darvish stays in Japan.

It was the same way with the Red Sox and Dice K, right up to the last minute, when Dice K realized he had no leverage and caved. Same thing will happen with Darvish. He will sign a 6 year deal for around 11-12 million per.

another big mistake with these Japanese pitchers

Except this pitcher is a hybrid mix. Not racial implications, got it, but a physical fact, and not really a fair comparison . Physically this guy is different.

I suspect this Darvish is making big money in Japan with endorsements and all. It will take a lot to get him, he is not exactly living day to day now.

He only makes $6.1M in Japan, which makes him the highest paid player in the league. So even a $12M a year deal will double his salary. As far as the endorsements go, I'm sure he'll still keep those.

$6.1M in Japan,

that's in the past, plus was in japan, now he its in the big leagues and if the rangers really would like to get him in their rotation then they have to pay whatever the player its asking, the last word that i hear its that darvish its seeking a 77.5 millions 5 years deal does that means the rangers will pay that amount? if they are serious about that deal they may do it!!

the rangers should sign darvish, he would be a great part in the rangers rotation, the team shouldn't be greedy with the top quality pitcher that they could get, besides nobody will compete with them or bidding for that pitcher, this pitcher belongs to the rangers all the way to arlington!!!
