08:13 AM ET 01.12 | Pittsburgh has been good to Hines Ward, and he'd clearly like to remain in black and gold. [But], if they do not want him, he still wants to play next season He just does not want to think about the second part of the equation at the moment. ... He understands he would have to take a pay cut from his $4 million salary next season. He has two seasons left on his contract and is willing to do that. Such a decision must be made, however, by March 1 because Ward said a clause in his contract states that they must guarantee his job by then or release him. "I'd probably have to restructure my contract," Ward said of the pay cut. "That's fine with me. I recognize that. I'm telling you I want to be here, I'm telling you I'm willing to do that."

He can see the writing on the wall. He has no choice if he wants to stay there, I suspect they move on and get younger.

True. He is a good mentor for the younger recievers though. He'll probably be cut at the end of the season if he doen't retire first.

Exactly....He's already been reduced to their 4th option with the presence of Wallace, Brown, and Sanders. Hell, I would be okay with it too if I'm just filing my nails on the bench every Sunday while the game's being played..

I'll say this... in 3rd & Long situations when you need a guy across the middle you can trust, Ward is the man.

Good for him.. start mentoring the other recievers and ride the bench.

The entire Steeler squad LOOKED old and tired. They need some ute's

.... Pardon me Mr. Gambini; did you say ute's?...

That's my favorite line from "My cousin Vinny". Classic...

Ward was Ben's security blanket for a long time. If he wants to stick around and he's willing to take reductions in salary and role, why not keep him? He's fine as a fourth receiver.

He would look real good in Tennessee's puke blue uniforms.....

Tough call. Hard worker, solid slot receiver, but at some point everybody gets old.

Sometimes it's better to walk off to cheers than to be rolled off to sirens, too.

But the Steelers seem to know when it is time to cut a veteran loose.
He will be 36 years old in March. Add in some injury issues and they will move on.

What more does he want? They already named the field after him.

Yes sir but he would be a welcome mentor for what passes as a receiving corp in Nashville.

I'm a ravens fan, but I have a high level of respect for Hines Ward. Team player, hope he stays with the Steelers or retires in the black and yellow.
