Sather keeping Avery in limbo

08:46 AM ET 01.12 | Sean Avery has at least another headline in him, through no fault of his own. [Avery] will remain a member of the AHL Whale for the time being despite the fact the Rangers have been asked by a NHL club to place the exiled winger on re-entry waivers, The Post has learned. Sources have told The Post general manager Glen Sather rejected that request, instead offering to trade Avery in a minor-league deal under which the Rangers would take back additional dollars but the responsibility for placing Avery on re-entry would then pass to the acquiring club that also would then bear the burden of carrying dead cap space upon a claim. ... [Asked if the Rangers would put Avery through the re-entry process, Sather replied:] "Not now."

I wonder if he'll have a photo shoot on the bus.

I don't get it. Pay the full cap hit for a player you don't intend to ever call up, or pay half the cap hit and get rid of him. I understand Sather's position as far as making an AHL deal so the cap hit is removed altogether, but i don't think another GM is going to bite on that risk. He should know that, so you either pay a guy an NHL salary to play in hartford or you pay half the salary to get rid of him is what it comes down to.

Sounds like old Waivery is getting charlie bravo'd. Tough break.

I may be wrong, but if The Avery is claimed, half the salary goes against the cap and if they Rangers keep him rooming with Redden, the entire cap number comes off the books.

That may be, i need to brish up on my CBA knowledge. I guess if that's the case the best thing Waivery can do is light it up in hartford and hope for a call up or trade.

Karma that the rest of the league gets to watch this turd bump around the bowl

Dude, have you been to hartford? i don't capitalize it for a reason. That place is a **** hole. I avoid it at all costs.

Guess Sather figures he might as well get something back for him....won't be much.....but something is better than nothing....

correct...and with a trade your getting a body back to fill the roster spot....

If that other team wanted him, why didn't they claim him on re-entry waivers like 2 months ago. This is just an issue of cap space, so sather is willing to deal real money for cap money. Not a bad move on his part.

My guess is this is a Larry Brooks article who is buddy buddy with Sean and is trying to get his boy toy another shot in the NHL so he keeps getting reports from an anonymous NHL player.

And the winner is.........Nard Dog!

IMO Sean is just mailing it in and making them pay up on the salary...sucks for all parties, honestly.

He is stealing money, basically....but thank good ole Sather for tieing us to that sinking ship.

Nothing good is going to come out of it; but it would be nice if Brooks reported on something more meaningful instead of this BS....like maybe some things that concern us like the slow starts, lack of PP production...yah now things that will no doubt come back to haunt us.

I am not sure either but I think Dallas is still on the hook for part of his salary and cap hit.

All I know is that this piece of crap is no longer a drain on the Stars cap, for which we are eternally grateful.
