08:25 AM ET 01.13 | Though some have speculated that Brent Venables would be just fine sharing the defensive coordinator title at Oklahoma, though that may not be the case with Mike Stoops in town. Venables has considered, and been considered for, a number of head coaching jobs the past few years. ... With some interest in recent days and weeks from programs such as Auburn and West Virginia, to be their defensive coordinator, Venables has been listening. A new opening, Clemson, could be intriguing, as well. Venables interviewed to be the Tigers' head coach in 2008. In the meantime, a school source said Thursday that OU officials -- including Bob Stoops and athletic director Joe Castiglione -- are working to keep Venables where he is.

QUOTE(#1):

Why work to keep him, unless brother is even worse. But then, their D was not so hot last year anyways.

0-6, don't you know no one plays D in the Big 12?

well, he'll prob go to WV, so his no defense capabilities would still be effective

or Clemson, they certainly didn't play D in their 70 point shelacking by WVU.

But I guess that's why they have an opening now.

It would be kind of odd to have two proven DC's on the same team, with one being the HC's brother.

Yes its interesting, why would your worry if you have another person to step in as DC? Otherwise, this just further validates "I hired my brother because he needed a job"

Their D seemed to lack the intensity the last few years. Prob a good change

QUOTE(#18):

It is a good change and to suggest its something other than an improvement for the D is a misguided and uninformed opinion.

Their D looked great the first half of the season ... and they looked really good in the Insight bowl too.

When Broyles and Whaley went down Landry wasn't the same ... I'm not blaming their D for the team not living up to the pre-season hype. And they had a good year - 10 wins.
