The NBA's biggest bust? Odom

08:15 AM ET 01.13 | This coming Monday is big day for Lamar Odom. That's when the Mavericks are in LA, facing Lamar's beloved Lakers, the same team that apparently destroyed Odom's heart and head by trading him to the Mavs. ... [The] Mavericks gave up basically nothing to acquire Odom as the NBA lockout came to an end in December. The deal was billed by some locally as the Mark Cuban bounce-back after his decision to blow up a world championship team. Who didn't like Lamar Odom's game? I liked it, even if I didn't like Cuban's decision on anything else. But just three weeks into a new NBA season, Odom, without question, is the biggest bust in the NBA. The real worry is he doesn't even seem to care that he's the biggest bust in the NBA.

Too hard to play B-ball in Dallas on a compressed schedule and pop back to LA to tape reality show episodes with Khloe.

Somebody tell me how this is a bust for Dallas? They got him for nothing...

He's got his reality show with the Mrs...so.....

A little early in the season to call him a bust... but what else can writers do? They have to make things up as they go along. And he has pretty much sucked so far soooooo...

Dumping on him is fair game.

Agreed - Way too early - What 10 games in - It's basically pre-season right now because of the prolonged lockout... Give it time for lot's of revamped squads and players....

Another example of just how much the guys on a team contribute to other guys performance.

I had the same issue with Perkins. He was a great fit for the C's.. because KG was his brain and covered his back so Perk could focus on what he did best... defend.

Without him Perk is pretty average at best. Some guys need a Kobe or a KG to get the best out of their game.

Odom is homesick and confused like a kid at a new camp. He should come around... maybe

It's far too early to call him a bust.

However, it's clear to see his head is not in the game and if you read the recent article on him on SI.com it's also clear that he sounds like a man that wants to take a break from basketball.

In partial fairness, how many guys that changed teams are doing all that well right now? Paul, but who else?

Well, Cuban had a choice....and because of the new CBA, which would have probably cost him an additional 30 or 40 million, on top of the contracts it would have taken to keep the team together...Cuban chose to keep his money, and give it a good shot. Can't blame him.

In order to be a bust, the team with the player in question had to have given up significant pieces in order to obtain said player. Dallas got Mr. Kardashian for free. Soft, he is. Bust, he aint.

Disagree...a bust is somebody who fails extremely, to meet expectation.
