Key to Baylor's success sits on the bench

08:26 AM ET 01.13 | Sixth man may become college basketball's new glamour position. B.J. Young leads Arkansas in scoring with 14.8 points, but his first few minutes of each contest are spent on the pine. The same thing goes for Will Sheehey (10.7 points) of Indiana and Michael Dixon (12.8 points) of Missouri. ... [Baylor's Pierre Jackson] has been the catalyst behind Baylor's 16-0 start. With averages of 11.9 points and 4.9 assists, Jackson is clearly the best guard on Baylor's roster. Yet Drew opts to start junior A.J. Walton ahead of Jackson, who still plays almost 27 minutes a game. The move, [Scott Drew] said, is strategic. "When Pierre comes in, the speed of our team and everything else just picks up," Drew said.

They are fairly good this year too.

Picked up a Dallas paper in the airport yesterday. Big article about Baylor. Said since the 10/29 loss to Okie Lite in football, the school is 38-0 since for FB, MBB and WBB. Hoops teams were 16-0 at that time and football won the last 6.

We'll see what they do w/o RGIII.

Oh, and it mentioned they had the Heisman Winner, the probably #1 NBA pick and the best player in women's bb.

Again, wonder how they will do without those three. The women's hoop team does have a national championship before Brittany Griner though so they would be the most likely to continue IMHO.

Baylor football, and both BB teams undefeated since last Nov., Heisman winner...

And to think, most everyone thought they were a joke and afterthought when Starr was threatening legal action against atm. They are a strength and stronger player in sports than just about everyone from a program standpoint.

You are in their neck of the woods Guido and know more about them than I do. Aren't they pretty competitive in tennis, baseball, softball, golf etc also? We all know they can put out track stars as evidenced by their past Olympic gold medal winners.

Yes, but can they sustain? You lose the top players from each team in the next 12 months. Can Baylor keep the momentum, or Are they a flash in the pan?

On the BB side, they are building true programs that have been consistently good. Womans NC recently, and prob again this year. Men's been a top 15-20 team recently, and continuing to get better by staying away from the one and dones.

Football, they are using the TCU recruiting methods of looking at athletes and convincing them to change positions to fit the team. Obviously, you don't replace an RG3 (see Auburn) and repeat that success, but the team will prob have more good players next year than this. Briles is building something. Can see them being a top 20-25, and build on that the following year after learning how to make up for RG3.

Its consistent across the non revenue sports, should be getting real good in BaseB soon. Really amazing for such a small school in Waco. Kinda making TTech and atm look bad, heck even UTx.

But, and the reason for my avi, did you here the UTx mens golf team won the last 3 tourney's by an average of 20 strokes? Consensus no 1. We may suck at BB, be average in CFB, and am waiting for BaseB, but we dominate on the course.

I saw the other day that Texas is also #1 in the emission of greenhouse gases. Yep, biggest air polluter in the nation. Take that you other 49!

By God we lead the nation in something! See, it really is all Texas fault!
